i have a clip that will not copy off red drive!!! hangs up 1/2 way through. I have tried 4 diff macbooks to get it off. red rocket will hangs up as well half way through making pro res of file. what can i do. it is a 7min take.

on the shoot the camera was shutting down in the middle of long takes. build 30.

could this be a drive problem? how often should i zero out and reformat these red drives? Are they fat 32 raid zero? can i just do this with mac disk utility?

thanks.

Sounds like either a damaged drive or corrupt filesystem.
First try redundead on the drive and see if you can get the file recovered.

Jason,

This very much sounds like a corrupt clip problem. That happens when the camera shuts down and does not finish writin the 'wrapper' that turns a video file into a clip.

Suggestions:

- If you need this clip DO NOT reformat the drive right now
- Question no 1.: Does the clip show, playback via the proxies ?
- If it does not play back all the way, can you see the beginning and the end ?

This will determine if the physical video file information is there.

Try to copy the clip via 'Redundead'. Be careful which drive you copy it too. I would not recommend copying to your main Raid, media storage - because corrupt Red Clips can make finder crash and mess up your drive.

One you copied the clip/media try to transfer. If it does not work in one go because you have corrupt frames try to do it little by little.

Feel free to PM me for anythign else.

Cheers

Axel

Try running REDundead on it. If it doesn't work the first time, try running it again on a different machine!

I'm having the same problem with a red drive. The camera reported about 30 dropped frames on this clip which was odd because the camera was stationary. The camera was on AC power the whole time and did not lose power.

It's a long clip containing about 7 .r3d files. One of the .r3ds in the middle will only copy 1.09 gigs before hanging. Hangs with finder and R3D Data Manager. Redundead gives up after copying 1.09 gigs also. Tried it on multiple macs.

Is there anything else to try other than sending it to Red? Luckily it is non-essential footage.
