  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clip shot with Red MX, RPP and Net lens

Gerat shots, this really kind of experienced work, I love the skin feel...

Wonderful images to say the least! You stated that you also used a glimmer glass filter. Was this in addition to the net (glimmer glass filter in matte box with net in front of sensor at the same time?) What glimmer filter did you use?

I haven't done this in years. Time to try it again.

With many lenses, it's possible to tape the net to the rear of the lens housing. (I haven't tried this with RPPS.) I think snot tape (the stuff that is just the adhesive with no Mylar backing) works best for that. Different materials give a different look, like white pro mist and black pro mist. Expensive silk stockings are my favorites. There was a Christian Dior pair that I loved. I might still have some of that material. Have to go looking.

Thanks guys for your nice and warm comments...
I used also a Hot Mirror (True Color) from Rosco, a ND1.2 Tiffen and a Tiffen Glimmer filter TM1 at the same time and in this order (the Glimmer is the closer of the front lens). The net (Fogal Nobless 110) is fixed with the Iring on the same configuration as on post #14.
I liked the Dior net too, but it seems that they stop the best reference few years ago !

The light is also important...
I used a Arri 18Kw with Straw filter and 251, a T12 (1/4 CTB), and for the indoor scene, the same with 4 Diva-Lite (3200) and 2 Fesnels 650w in back light...
Best
Michael

How exactly does the net affect the image?

How exactly does the net affect the image?

It softens it, without losing too much sharpness. Great for skin, also seems to spread out/soften the highlights/break them up. Different hose gives different looks, definitely fun to play with (and a great way to help out your actresses, they'll love you for it!).

People have been doing this for at least as long as I've been in the business (15 years), and I'm sure much, MUCH longer. :)

Wow!! Thank you for posting this! I own a set of RPPs and now really want to try this, I think pairing the super sharp and crisp RPPs with a net is a killer combo for the right material.

What strength of glimmer glass did you use? I wonder how much of this look is due to the rear netting and how much is your front glimmer. Either way, love the end result.

what kind of ring

what kind of ring

what kind of ring did you use, because when I shoot with my RPP on alexa I have to take the black ring at the end of the 18mm off because it would not fit into the mount

how much place is there between the sensor en the back of the lens for "THE RING"

thanks
