Hey guys, I'm shooting a scifi-ish music video next month. They want the talent to be holding "light tubes". I know I've seen them in movies before, like a battery powered tube, but I can't find anything like it. The only thing I can think of would be using a small Kino tube, but then you have to run wires to both sides.

Does anyone know of anything I could use for this?

Thanks!

Hey Chris, this would be a cool effect. However, most likely glow sticks won't be bright enough for ISO 800 and those DIY solutions will have light only coming out of one side. If you need light coming through the entire shaft you'll need a light-within-a-light with internal diffusion to mask the guts. I have made something like that for a project I was working on a few years ago. If you need me to whip one up for you, just let me know. I have a sketch in my head using concentric tubes with an LED array. shoot me an email to jason@CinemaOxide.com

Thanks for all the responses!

The DIY link looks like it produces nice light, but this will be a practical in a majority of the shots, so it needs to look like it wasn't made at home.

The ice light is definitely a possibility, but if the talent is holding it looking at walls etc... the light won't hit their face enough. I basically need an ice light that has light coming from both sides.

Thanks for the answers so far though! Definitely getting close.
