Greetings redusers,

How do you safely clean the RED sensor? I picked up an Arctic butterfly from visible dust,
http://www.visibledust.com/products3.php?pid=3

along with a scope and this works great for dust particles etc but what is the method you would use to remove a spot that is not dust? I have been told you can wipe the sensor (glass in front of sensor) with a particular cloth and solution?

If there is already a thread on this then sorry for the repost, I will keep searching. Best

Does it have any effect? As I remember, the distance between glass and sensor prevent light blocking from dust, if it's not large or much. I have the visible dust kit anyway, and swabs - I have only used the brush and scope.

i'm not sure about the visible dust stuff.
When ever I use the Artic butterfly it always seem to leave small white streaks that I need to wash off using the sensor solution and swabs.
I think the general sensor wash could be better as you need to be so carefully not to leave streaks...which you do no matter how careful you are... and then it's a bit like ploughing a field with sensor wipes. I just don't think the general cleaning fluid is the right one. The x 7 Loupe is great except the batteries run out too quick. Make sure you order different size cleaning swabs.

Us still shooters have been suffering with cleaning sensors for years. I never had luck with the Arctic Butterfly. I just use a large hand blower and if I need to remove stubborn particles, I then use the cleaning fluid and wipes.

i've have all the visable dust lsolutions and eclipse cleaner

from my testing i found 2 of the visabledust solutions leaves a little streaking = just about all the time i had to use 1 to clean and another to get rid of streaking .... while eclipse worked excellent cleaning and had no streaking ....

also i preferred the photo solution #2 swaps over the visable dust swaps ...
preferred visable dust artic butterfly over the photo solutions brush ...
and preferred the visable dust 7X loupe over all others ..

It would be nice to hear someone from Red comment on which cleaning fluid is recomended for the red sensor.

This is what I use:

With

and

They work incredibly well, and no dust is ever left on the sensor.

Remember that delicacy is the outmost important when cleaning any sensor, they are extremely delicate, and some products might scratch the surface easier then you think.

The blower I use also is great because it isn't static like some blowers and it doesn't allow the dust bak in by use of vacuum.

Hope it helps.

yeah ketch.. that looks like a kick ass solution... the nrd firefly.. i got the arctic butterfly.. but it sure keeps a trail. i'm looking for a hoover thing.. cause the dust just feels like everything comes back or falls back.

Yeah I have seen those before Ketch, good to know they actually work cause while the arctic butterfly has been great for removing dust on the actual sensor, the firefly solution seems like it would be very useful for removing any particles and dust build up AROUND the sensor.

I have used just about every solution available during the past twenty years or so, to clean mirrors, lens etc. and finally the combination of the above listed, has resulted in a perfect solution, the illuminated loop makes missing the smallest dust particule impossible, that thing is bright!

And the Firefly literally sucks it right out, and its antistatic nature makes way harder for the dust to get moved around instead of getting removed, Period!

Glad you guys could find this of help.

wow ketch,
i'm gonna buy those now. guess whos gonna receive them...
