  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clarification...

Unfortunately Jim didn't mentioned Epic-S in his "Clarification" report above!!!???

Seems to me somehow that RED lost its own ROOTS and that is just one of the main issues (there are a lot of them)

that were caused a sort of technical knockout (also referred to as a T.K.O.) at the last NAB show.

I would not talk and dig more deep about it now just because all the time the forums watchdogs are behind me...

Anyway I will soon opening my own blog (that I often refused for many years but maybe now it's a right time to have it... stay tuned).

Also I do not have intention to confront any of RED official decision making and it's just an opinion...

Sanjin, you have many great qualities and contributions ... but it's posts like this that make people think you're seriously a bit crazy.
Lost it's roots? TKO? Forum watchdogs? It's like one part of you is playing Mike Tyson's Punch Out while the other thinks you're the
star in the geeky film-industry espionage version of Bourne Identity.

Relax man. Come back down to earth. There is no big conspiracy. No reason to start a controversial blog. (Though if you started a
Leica blog I promise I'd be the first to sign up for your feeds!)

And another thing -- it's just weird how passionate you are about Red, yet how much you love to stir the pot and cause trouble. I feel
like you cannot help yourself. Like there's part of you that gets a strange thrill from kicking the beehive.

Red hasn't given us any reason not to take their communications at face value. And until they do, I think we owe them the benefit of
the doubt :)

Thanks Jim, apreciate that.
Good Luck Sir!
Best!

Thanks for this Jim!

I know its simple, but the little simple update is most useful to me and my end of summer feature.

Cheers

This post sounds like music to my ears.

This must have been below my radar on the 22th.
I'm very glad I still saw this post today.

Thanks a lot Jim and team for taking care of this situation and trying to solve the component issue.

Hope you can deliver your camera's asap to everyone who needs them.

"G.M. Pieces Together a Japanese Supply Chain" is an interesting NYT article that provides a bit of a BTS look at GM's response to the Japanese supply chain crisis. The article gives some sense of the scale of the problem and what RED has been up against in terms of the initial problem and the global, extremely competitive, mad scramble to find new suppliers of critical components.

I wouldn't be surprised if Stage 3.5 / 4 isn't until November...not with the severity of the situation in Japan. I have the funds for Epic-X right now in my savings, but there is no way in hell I can afford an Epic-M! Hopefully this summer will go by fast. It's already mid-May

As badly as I Need my EpiX don't rain on my summer, it hasn't even gotten warm around these parts yet!

Excellent question Michael, I was just wondering if there was any news on Scarlet myself.

I think I recall reading that Scarlet is - will be - built on a completely different line to EPIC, presumably a line geared to the much higher volumes Scarlet will sell. The two projects are pretty much decoupled, apart from a fair base of common software. It's not like EPIC, where -S production is explicitly contingent on the -X stages being completed; Scarlet could come at any time, without reference to EPIC progress.

For all we know the lens component supply issues could have been fixed a month ago, and they've been building up a stockpile of Scarlets ever since, so they don't go into back order when they go up on the RED Store tomorrow... hey, there's no law against being an incurable optimist!

(actually I really hope that *doesn't* happen; if it does, I'll find it impossible to resist going right out and buying a Scarlet. This will leave me hurting and In Trouble if and when they start asking for Stage 3 money come September or so... have to earn money this summer!)

If I'm wrong on any of this someone please jump in and correct me!

Mike
