  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clarification...

Thank you Jim for the update.

Thanks for the updated.

Are other parts like Bomb EVF, SSD, batteries also affected by the Japan disaster?

I can see in the shop that they are either BACK ORDERED or LIMITED AVAILABILITY.

Thanks

Pat

Thanks for the update Jim. When the time is right, one of the things I hope you guys can do is create more Stage 2 and Stage 3 package options that include parts that seem to be in scarce supply, and may continue to be.

For example, packages that include the Bomb EVF, SSD media (either 128 or 256gb), etc. And not even talking about doing this so we can have bundle savings ... just so that people know they have options which will secure/guarantee the parts they desire when the time comes. I think a lot of people have been frantically purchasing media in fear of shortage ... which may not be necessary if they knew media was a guaranteed option in their upgrade package.

Personally, as someone leasing/preparing to take over a Stage 3, I would love to see a package that was identical to what's contained in the Epic M package ... even if the "trade in + upgrade" price is $20,000-25,000 (or whatever) rather than the initial $10,500 that was quoted previously. And I would know my EVF and initial media needs will be taken care of in my upgrade.

Anyway, just a thought for you guys are you prepare final packages and pricing for everyone.

Jim, on a previous thread titled "Bad news..." you stated:

"After talking with our group, and after exhaustive work on supply chain issues... there are 18 parts (out of 18,000) of EPIC-X that come from Japan. More specifically... northern Japan factories. If you are not brain dead and have been watching the news, you will understand that this is bad news."

Seems to me that you have 99.9% of your parts issues sorted out already. Hey, I am only adding some positive vibes herre :-)

....

Scarlet continues to be an issue due to the fact that lens components from Japan are causing an issue and we aren't quite sure how long it will take to resolve. We will update as we have more info.

Given the additional complexity with respect to components for Scarlet - is there any chance that the Epic-S will move forward in the production plans ? I seem to remember that you mention that the Epic-S would go into production after Scarlet.

Thanks for the update

I would guess that, because the Epic-S has no lens and it's the lens components are the thing in short supply for Scarlet, Epic-S will have a different set of obstacles than the Scarlet.

I think what Jim means (regarding this apparent 98% 99.9% descrepancy) is that they actually have 98% of the parts for EPIC-S in stock right now, a further 1.9% sourced and ordered and not a cause of worry and the final 00.1% that was to have come from Japan has been sourced but there are suddenly a lot of other chicks in the nest.

The wait has been a major cost saver of the editing computer I plan on setting up. 6TB of RAID 5 for <$700 ! Broader adoption and more powerful CUDA or OpenCL acceleration for the same $$$. 12 GB of relatively high performance ram for $120. Who would have projected these decreases even a year ago, especially considering the collapsing dollar.

This is seriously good news. Nice to know you guys are ready! We already knew that this delay has nothing to do with Red. Thanks for working out a solution quickly!

Any chance if the 8x is delayed for a while you can get on detachable 2/3's before or is it too far down the line?

Thank you so much for your continued open and expansive communications to us all. I really appreciate it and have my deposit ready to drop on Epic-X whenever RED is ready to start taking open orders--I'm Stage Last! (:

+ 1 for epic s

Well, Jim first of all thanks for the transparency.
I have to say that I've sunk my Scarlet fund into my first feature film as a director...that money went directly into renting a Red One MX package...I couldn't imagine shooting it any other way.

Please. Take your time with the Scarlet. It'll take me at least until the end of the year to recoup my investment and after saving for so long and evangelising RED since 2006 I can't imagine not being one of the first people off the block to purchase a Scarlet.

Please. Take your time. Build up an inventory of accessories and parts so that when I do buy the Scarlet (or Epic S) I can get everything I need in one go from Alan & the awesome crew in Pinewood. I know that sounds selfish but that's the situation I'm in right now. It's taken this long. The Japanese situation is out of your hands. Don't stress. Just know that there's probably hundreds of customers world wide in the same position that I am who won't abandon you and go with another company.

Get some well deserved sleep :)

No matter what people say, this kind of honesty and bluntness is extremely valuable. Sure it puts you guys under scrutiny and the watchful eye of the critics, but it's well worth the customer loyalty you gain.

Thanks for the update.

If Scarlet fixed is held up due to lens components, is it possible to push Scarlet Cinema forward a bit?

Sounds a good idea to me!

No lens components in the Scarlet Cinema.

Sounds pretty obvious.

But there's something odd going on with the Scarlet Cinema.
No one at Red has mentioned it for months.
In announcements they only refer to the Scarlet Fixed.
There are at least three threads on here and ScarletUser asking for clarification on the progress of the Scarlet Cinema.
There has been not the slightest response from Red.
They have had the chance to say that the rumors are false that the Cinema is being put on the backburner.
But they haven't done so.

On the other hand, they were displaying the Mini Primes at NAB, whose only purpose in the world would seem to be for the Scarlet Cinema.
And the Scarlet Cinema would seem the most obvious choice for lightweight 3d cinematography.

It's very confusing.

Can't you please tell us - what's up with the Scarlet Cinema?

If the Scarlet delays are mostly due to the lens components, why wouldn't you release the Scarlet Cinema first?

Paul
