Many people want to know what's up with EPIC and Scarlet production.

EPIC-X. We are frantically working on finding solutions to supply chain issues created by the tsunami in Japan. We have found alternate sources (as have all of the other major companies) of parts that were exclusively made in Northern Japan. All of us are just waiting and in line for these parts and pieces. It appears that a solution to the supply of these parts will allow production of EPIC-X to begin in earnest in June. We have a full production facility and 98% of the components ready and waiting to rock as soon as we receive these parts.

EPIC-M. We are making machined body parts and purchasing individual parts and pieces at extraordinary prices now to continue production of EPIC-M.

Scarlet continues to be an issue due to the fact that lens components from Japan are causing an issue and we aren't quite sure how long it will take to resolve. We will update as we have more info.

In the past we were late due to our own issues. Now we are late due to issues beyond anyone's control.

Jim

Thanks for the continuing info Jim.

Just wondered, does Epic S share those same 2% of hard to source components, or either way is it only a priority once X production is underway?

thanks for the new info jim.
how many epic-x you think will be / can be shipped every month when you can start ?

I hope that means hundreds of partially assembled epicx's are just standing by waiting for these parts to drop in and off to QC hehe:-P

Thanks for the update ; ) I know when Scarlet comes out it'll be a great day. There is so much going on in Japan it is no surprise AT ALL that production has been jacked up pretty bad. I feel for those that lost their entire communities over the course of minutes..good luck to the Red team in getting it all sorted out as resources permit.

Thanks for the update, while we wait we will continue to shoot the 2nd best digital cinemacamera in existence - our mx' ed red one.

I'm guessing that even if those factories weren't actually physically struck by the tsunami itself, they are probably shut due to the radiation exclusion zones, staff losses and just general disruption that the event caused. Thanks for keeping us all updated Mr.J.

Thanks for this VERY helpful information on planning. There was no doubt you were working hard to resolve...

question, (hope its not too proprietary) but are these parts for EPIC-X something that will continue to be a challenge and effect production? or will they be a steady re-supply by June so production
can resume in full force?

Any ETA of when we'll get a overview of what is included in the Stage 2 package? Are you open for suggestions? (i.e. I'd happily trade in the IO Module for media.)

I think the day Jim knows when the stock is flowing again will be the day they open the shipments in the Red factory. The Epic-X's will probably begin to ship a week later. Until then, Red will be getting the same message we are: "Soon".

Thx for info/update.

I have no questions for you as I know you're pretty forthcoming about everything you can be. Instead, thanks for being there and doing what you and the RED Team does.

I'm sorry you guys have to go through this AND then deal with all the "whens" and "whys" and "whatabouts"... Aloha.

This must be tough from a labor-force perspective. I'm thinking you had people in place to begin ramped-up production before the tsunami effect, and now there is this lapse before they are needed. Don't know if there is such a thing as business interruption insurance, but if there is, I hope you had it.

Thanks for the update.

If Scarlet fixed is held up due to lens components, is it possible to push Scarlet Cinema forward a bit?

The subway

The subway

I lived in NYC in the 80's when they were rebuilding the subway system from years of underfunding. The old trains had numerous delays and problems. Someone discovered that if the passengers were informed of why they were stuck in a tunnel somewhere ("we're waiting for a repair crew ahead"), everyone relaxed and stopped grumbling. Just that bit of information made a big difference. That became standard procedure to make those announcements, and ridership and funding improved all around.

Thanks for the update.

Really thanks to clarify. You said the supply chain touched the scarlet (Fixed) and that lens components. But how is the Scarlet Interchangeable? Wouldn't be better try to produce that first, if that is not affected by the global issue? I really don't want to brief, i am just thinking loud :)
