I've used the Flex Lens Shade quite a bit in high winds and heavy snow. It works great because you can also bend it down to cover the lens during times of heavy snow and rain. However, over time the flexible wires inside will loosen and break. But because it's rather inexpensive I purchased several and keep using it.

Hi Joel,

In a pinch you can do what I had to do last summer in Nepal. We had several "oversized" lens that would not fit in the matte box, so I took off the top flag on my matte box and drill a hole in it and mounted it to a 11 inch magic arm. Sorry for the lousy photo but it was the only one I would find with "French" flag solution: Check out the link. https://www.flickr.com/photos/fpaulperez/14148904866/

I've tried the Flex shade but didn't find it very usefull.
The velcroing to the lens is not subtile and uses a lot of usefull space (on small lenses nearly not usable) and the flexible part is kind of weak for a day to day use.

Joel, something like this may work? http://goo.gl/YBPvlg This is a pretty versatile kit but they also have just the arm and flag.

I think this could be a good sulotion. The only thin i liked to change is the clamp to something more like a manfrotto superclamp. But i guess this will hold its place.

The Dinkum has other options other than the clamp. I would go with the 1/4-20 thread myself.

^^ What Bob said. http://goo.gl/sEGnH1 or http://goo.gl/yk7VRC. The other link I posted was a more complete kit with all the parts you would ever need. If you just wanted a simple arm & shade with 1/4-20 on the end then there are those options as well for a lot less $$.
Good luck.
