We are releasing a new tool for the Avid and Red workflow Nov 5th.
Just like the Red tools from Avid you translate your Avid XML to Redcine XML.

The upside is that any footage prepared with Metacheater, RedRushes or RedcineSXLT will work.
You can also move the media to a different location (even multiple folders) than the one used in the offline ingest.

We will release a public beta for OSX (Leopard) some time this week.
The windows public beta version is about a week away and it will be Vista only.

Take a look at www.avocoda.com

Excellent! Looking forward to it.

Cool. In what way you are different from Crimson and Monkey Extract. Also like to add a point that, If you render files using RedCine they are soft, where as Red Alert / Red Line uses sharpen filter for output.

Thoughts are welcome.

What I have seen so far is the ability to take the native FilmScribe XML (no need to apply an XSLT to filter it down), re-index the R3D files, and create a valid REDCINE XML regardless of how the original metadata got created of how the R3D files got moved - REDrushes, MetaCheater, etc. This allows more flexibility to the conform process when projects start with one of many ALE/QT tools available.

Crimson and Monkey Extract is Mac only (for now at least). cineXML is supported on OSX Leopard and Windows Vista.

The main difference is that cineXML is Avid only and that it supports multitrack sequences in one go. So edit in Avid and finish on Media Composer, Symphony or DS. Or finish in whatever tool you prefer that relinks to DPX sequences. It literally takes less than 15 minutes to go from offline to online for a 30 second commercial spot using an 8 core computer. I will create a video tutorial before release to explain the simple and effective workflow.

Regarding the softness in Redcine: There is a slider you can use in the Color tab. Did you try that, gbalaji? I never touch the default values. I usually sharpen the footage downstream depending on delivery format.

I will let everyone know when you can download the beta. You can signup at the avocoda.com in the meantime and then we will send you a download link.

This sounds awesome!

Should work perfectly for me since my first RED project shoots in a week. If its true that this works regardless of the ingest pipeline, we will be ready to conform in about 2 months, just in time for a couple of versions ;).

So to be sure rebusfilm, this will work just fine if I transcode and generate my ALE out of REDrushes, edit in Media Composer 3.05 on an 8-core Mac and want to simultaneously do an HD online in Media Composer in-house as well as generate the DPX files for conform at a separate post-house on a Nitris system or possibly baselight (still choosing our DI house).

Looking forward to the instructional video!

Be sure to check out the latest version of the step by step guide when creating dailies from REDrushes on www.avid.com/red

Updates include specific modification to the ALE file when using 3.5 version of REDrushes (or earlier) as well as modification for audio.

thanks Michael.

Nice updates to the already useful guide.

Your example is the reason why we developed it. You basically made a step by step guide in a couple of sentences :)
