  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cineron

Hello Aaron. I have been doing robotics and gyrostability for quite a few years. You are correct in a few points however the vibrations of the heli or any platform is the easiest part to take care of , even rc users have managed to take care of it and there are about 20 different ways of doing this depending on the platform. To be quite honnest a wide open lens doesnt say much though, since there are more and more people give very smooth and with out vibrations shots with this kinda lens. Wireless controlls are also very easy to adapt and again there are many ways doing this. What I havent seen so far is pulling mediume to longer lens shots and prove that the antivibration system works, as well as the smoothness of the head and of course gyros.
Noone so far has done that in a small platform, but Iam afraid this is the only test that can demonstrate the stability, fine control, and antivibration effect to a gyrostabilised head.

Constantine, I'm not sure what you mean by RC users have managed to take care of that and there are 20 ways of doing it. As far as I know no RC shooter has ever got a stabilized shot (prior to us shipping our smaller heads). I know there are tricks to making it seem stabilized, like using wide angle lens, slo-mo, post stabilization but none of them compare to real active stabilization. Can you find a link to any RC footage that you would consider well stabilized?

yes we are shooting a lot on longer lenses and it of course shows off the stabilization even better and will post some more footage soon but the reason we posted that first test flight footage is that even with a 24mm lens it shows a level of stabilization that has never before been possible in something that lightweight.

We also shoot with the Gyron (will be shooting the space shuttle air to air later this month over LA with it) and consider it the gold standard for stabilization (as well as the Eclipse) and we own a CineflexV14 that we have shot a lot of footage with and would have preferred buying a small stabilized head for the Epic but none existed so we started this project over a year ago with the goal of having sub-pixel stabilization at 100mm with a 5k sensor.

Just had a earthquake..... forgot where i was going with this.....

Hello Aaron, first I will say good to see some more advanced head of this size other than rc 3 axis head with rc gyros.
Second my comment about 20 ways of stabilizing refer to the vibration isolation of the camera head from the rc platform. Dpending on the platform and the vibration frequency,
there are many ways of using different materials, vibration isolators, from industrial ready to work, to cable spring designs, and other spring configurations, as well as air springs.
So because an nitromethanol heli, is very different from an octa or a real heli, or a car, or a bot , the antivibration mounts change, the configurayions change and there are many.
I was nnot refering to the gyro sensor used for this.
Now as far as gyro sensors most rc users shooters use rc gyros cause they are easy to adapt with modified servos. Depending on the tuning so can produce decent shots. Some not.
Other multicopter users use the gyro sensors that they use to stabilise the multicopter. They all luck on performance but I have seen more than 3 very decent attempts by using a DSLR camera. with wide lens. I will try and find them and post the links as It has been a while.

So thats what I meant, and when I have asked about the purpose is because I am more interested to see how well the head stabilizes horizon and the drift , and as the test was showing some weird motion I was asking if the head was out of tune and what was the purpose of the video.

So there is no other reason, and Iam interested to see how well this small head performs with longer lenses and how well everything is stabilized.
Are you planning on bringing this on the market ? or is it just for your aerial rental business?

thank you for posting and looking fwd to see more finaln results and exiting videos.
will you be able to post the specs of the head including weight?
the sub pixel stabilization sounds very interesting indeed shooting 5k.
thanks again

The Cineron X is about to go into production, we've been working the prototypes pretty hard on a lot of gigs. Will post footage soon. Here are a couple of pics of it on a truck.
