Very cool remote phosphor "LED" lighting.

cineo-hs-pic.jpg

I have been speaking with the fine folks at Cineo Lighting about creating an opportunity here at RedUser. I really like their technology and hoped they would see the value in our community.

They came through with this cool offer!

Special note: They redesigned the power supply so it is smaller and a bit more versatile. All kit orders of the HS and LS come with the new units. The DX450 is 30% smaller and has a decreased its foot print by 50%. These are BRAND NEW release products. Solidly built. Cineo is working on a DC product for the LS that will just be an add on when it becomes available. If all goes well here I foresee another group buy when it’s out.

We also talked about making this process as smooth as possible so they graciously supplied a discount code. That should eliminate the confusing communication that we sometimes have within group buys.

Disclaimer: I am not associated with Cineo Lighting or Adorama. I am just following in the footsteps of my fellow Redusers and trying to get a good value for our community.

Thanks

Jim

The timing of this offer works for those of us going to Cinegear. Check them out on stage 32 while you’re there.

Welcome, Trisha! Thanks for being here!

I have been lusting after these lights since NAB 2012. Not sure i can take advantage of the offer this time around but it is sure great to see this being introduced to the RED community in such a generous way. I think this lighting technology has a huge future.

have fun at CineGear.

Hi PCG!

the HS retails at 3995 for a kit and the LS (which is debuting here at cinegear!) retails for 1995. There are also lots of great control accessories available ala cart.

And will the additional Phosphor panels with different color temperatures for the LS version become available to purchase under this group buy?

The LS @ 8,000 lumens is slightly brighter than the area 48. The HS @ 22,000 lumens is almost triple the light output. All CTs (27,32, 43, 56, 65 and chroma green) should be available on the adorama site. Ill double check this tonight. If anything is missing, ill have them add it first thing next week.

Oh! One other big difference, besides the CT options, is that TruColor operates flicker free on speeds up to 10,000 fps. Area 48 uses a PWM clock, so odd frame rates may produce some flicker. (Or so it was last I checked their spec sheet)

Anybody see these at the show?

Sorry but having intensively tested this units, I can affirm that it is not so!

Also, since the other Group Buy for the Area 48, has no as of yet been concluded reporting the false could prompt any one to cancel their order or participation on the Area 48 purchase and that I will not allow, if only based on something that is simply not the truth!!

Also the Area 48 Soft fixtures have been tested successfully absolutely flicker Free to recorded speeds up and over 19600fps, so please make sure you report correct facts.

Both light fixtures, True Color and Area 48, are incredibly great fixtures, in fact I consider them the two TOP LED fixtures in the industry, and one can choose one or the other accordingly to their needs, just lets be sure that in a community of professionals we state facts and not one thing for an other just to see one fixture sale vs. the other, as that would no be fair to the consumers of this community which I respect all very much been a long time member my self.

Ketch,

Just want to be sure that I understand what you are stating when you say
"Sorry but having intensively tested this units, I can affirm that it is not so! "

Is this in reference to the lumen output?
I have not been able to personally test the Area 48 fixtures, but when I look at the spec sheets posted by both companies, I found the following:

Area 48 5600K @ 10 feet produces 36fc / 3m = 386 lux
TruColor HS 5600K @ 10 feet produces 66fc / 3m = 710 lux

Area 48 3200K @ 10feet produces 34fc / 3m = 361 lux
Trucolor HS 3200K @ 10 feet produces 56fc / 3m = 603 lux

The same approximate ratio between the two fixtures carries through all of the data sheets available... In all cases, the TruColor HS delivered more light output.
When you tested, what were your results?

Note: I am using the HS versus the LS since at the time you were testing, the LS was not yet introduced to the market.

So far as the Area 48 group buy offer, on May 23rd, you posted the following:
"Okay guys it has been truly fun... But like all good things must come to a end.
This Group Buy IS now CLOSED, Thanks to every one that participated!!"

You acknowledged that the folks at BB&S had already extended the time frame twice - and went out of their way to accommodate our community.
That group buy was a fantastic offer and extremely generous of them to extend, but looking at the dates, Jim waited a full week after the Area 48 group buy closed before announcing this offer.
No need to complain - rather, he deserves thanks for not stepping on top of a great group buy you put together!

Related to flicker, Trisha referred to a PVM clock that MAY produce some flicker at odd frame rates. I would like to know more about this on a technical level.
Would like to see an independent test to determine if this is an issue at any frame rate.

I am all for giving the REDUser community more options to acquire tools for filmmaking.
A disclaimer of sorts: I've been very impressed by the TruColor since I was first exposed to the technology at a SMPTE meeting in the fall of 2011.
I was equally impressed when I saw the results using the Area 48 fixtures on the LaFloret shoot. (Note: watched that in 4K projection in NYC with Ted)

These are exciting times - let's agree to look at all of the opportunities to create better images.
Peace...

Brian,

the group Buy has been closed yes, but since not every one has paid for, they can step out of, and usually as proper etiquette I'll never post a Group Buy for a product similar to one that is already in place, at list not till is competed, buy which I mean every one got their purchase.

Either way, since I am for the god of the community before all else, if any one wishes to step out the Area 48 group buy they can do so if they were to see this fixtures asa better fit to them.

As far as what I have said I mean what I say, Area 48 keep their numbers very conservatively, and this is true also for the CRI and not just the Lumens, as I said in the Group buy, they are the amongst the Brightest's if not the brightest in their class.

And as far as flicker, no one can absolutely even mention about them flickering as they also have been tested at high speeds 20kfps and over, and I want to make sure I challenge any one that says differently, since not only I have tested them, but also have stated so in the group buy, and surely didn't wanted to make me sound like I lied about it, or didn't know what I was talking about, as I take lighting extremely seriously, have done so for over 30 years.

I would not have jumped in here if was not to correct what was stated about the Area 48, but since they were mentioned and the wrong affirmation was given about them I came in here to correct that.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the TruColor, in fact the opposite is true... ;)

NOW...

As far as the TruColor here offered, I almost went with this fixtures, but then went the Area 48, for personal reasons and needs, as well as for cost and total discount I could get as a group buy.

At the end as you say Brian, choices are good, all in the name of giving us the best tools for the creation of better images, the community wins all around.
