*An Introduction.*

You are receiving this because you are one of the first in line to
pre-order the Cinemek G35. We are pleased to say that the design phase
is complete and we will be rolling out units the first of the year. It
has been a long road getting to this point but we are very pleased with
the results and cannot wait to share them with you.

*A brief update with where we are.*

Our initial commitment is to our very loyal pre-order base, so one of
the first assembled units could be for you. We thank you for your
continued support and patience while we developed and refined our
product, as offering a quality device is of the utmost importance to us.
At the time of placing a deposit we will be able to offer an estimated
delivery date, expected to be between 6 to 8 weeks.

*What's next?*

It has been over a year and a half of waiting for you. We know a lot can
change in that time. Most of you have been patiently waiting
occasionally checking in with us in regards to the ship date of the G35.
We understand others may have moved on. The main purpose of the letter
is to fill you in on our timelines and inform you of a pending deposit
to secure your unit. Now that we have secured a commitment from our
suppliers we can give general shipping dates. We will require a $350
deposit (greater if more camera mounts are required) from you to secure
your serial number by January 18, 2007. If you are no longer interested
please let us know so we can remove you from our list.

What the hell?! Did I just get an email lost in a time vortex or are they planning on shipping at the end of this month and misprinted the year? They're still alive? Did they ever get the static ground glass fine enough for HD?

I'm really confused....

interesting...

interesting...

Tell me a bit about this product. I couldn't find details on their website. First, how does it work-with a relay lens? That would be a great selling point as the camera wouldn't have to be long-nosed like what I have now with the Brevis35. I like that it's got no moving parts, no vibrating or spinning stuff inside. The footage looks nice and sharp. Last and most important, what is their price? Thank you.

The G35 was the talk of the town for 35mm lens adapters about two years ago. After having pretty remarkable footage, the G35 never went out of the Beta version....It's about time their doing something about it, too bad there's a million other BETTER choices now.

Yeah they definitely missed the boat. It looked fairly promising and had a bunch of people wanting to buy one and then they disappeared. They did all the hard work of creating a buzz and then didn't bother to deliver a product. They could've made a small, or possibly even big, fortune but stuffed it up royally.

That's propably the best description of the whole G35 hype I've ever read, Paul

Ask Macgregor. He had a beta unit and tested it and made some incredible freaking footage with it a couple years ago. Anybody wanting info simply has to search the Dvxuser forums and you'll be inundated!

I have reservation #30 that I had almost completely forgotten about. In fact my CGTalk avatar is still the cinemek parody logo. (Battletech fans will understand.)

The device compared to all of the other options was possitively brilliant. It had almost zero vignetting, no noticeable fixed pattern noise, dramatically less light loss, no batteries, no moving parts, no noise, extremely small compared to something like the redrock, what looked like bullet proof construction and then ... HD.

It was going to be released a few months before the HVX launched but got pushed back until afterwords. The problem was then that while it performed absolutely marevously in standard definition the ground glass grain was visible in HD.

Well the solution was obvious go back into development and redesign it to be a piezo electric vibrating ground glass. They agreed upon an arangement to license someone's vibrating mechanism that was also excellent by someone who was only hand making special order adapters. Combined with their gg and his piezo electric mechanism it seemed like the perfect solution. But then the mechanism developer backed out of the agreement there were heated words and it seemed that instead of releasing something *only* for SD cameras (like I wanted because I was shooting my own projects with a DVX and some HVX exclusively at the time) but alas they dissapeared for 2 years now only to resurface with this cryptic email to I assume the first 50-100 reservation holders with a deadline of last year to pay the deposit... :|? So I can't tell if this was sent out on accident, the date is wrong or what's going on.

What's equally confusing is the picture looks exactly like it did before. They're not posting any new footage in HD to let us know if they fixed that with a new space age static ground glass and they have NO Canon FD MOUNT! They *had* a Canon FD Mount ready to ship last time but I guess they forgot how to make one this time around.

Oh yeah and it's still $1000 (without $300 in mounts) even after 2 years of development.

If this is for real they're in for a world of hurt. I would pay $300-$500 w/mounts for one if it had an HV20 adapter. I'm not going to spend $1500 when I could just rent a RED and get 4k. Possitively absurd if you ask me.

HAhahah

It took me awhile to figure out what this thing is. Everytime I see some footage shot through one of those type devices I think to myself, hey why don't they just take the camera lens and throw it in the pond for a few days untill some fungus starts growing inside and mount it back on the camera. The quality of the image will be about the same as using one of those adapters.
Now I know the point is to achieve a 35mm DOF look but come on at what cost of quality of image?
Optically the absolute worse idea I've ever seen.

I just watched an HD sample today... you'll like this adapter for sure. NO grain visible at HD resolutions, with high shutter speeds, and no moving parts. I'm not lying dude, this is THE 35mm adapter. Oh, and yes, its pretty darn sharp.

Just got an email that "Cinemek G35 Now shipping". 3 years and one RED ONE camera too late I would say, at least for me :)

It wouldn't say. Here is the full text:

Greetings,

As you may have noticed we have added a cinemek store link to our website. This link is currently password protected. We are giving out a limited number of passwords to pre-order customers for the next 10 days. We will then open the store to the public. You are receiving this email because you currently have a place in line for the cinemek G35.

If you are interested in receiving a password to access the store and purchase a G35, please respond to this email by August 27th. Please also note that currently quantities are limited, so receipt of a code does not guarantee you an adapter. Please ensure that your subject line has PASSWORD in it.

If you have any questions please feel free to email me at xxx@xxx.xxx. Thanks again!

Great Short Shot With G35

Great Short Shot With G35

If I remember correctly, McGregor (an active Reduser member) shot a beautiful short with the Cinemek a few years ago titled "Similo". If you get a chance, take a look (I think it's linked at the Cinemek site). Although I'm not a proponent of the G35, the film does not suffer from format choice - truly breathtaking.

Nick.
