I was watching the trailer for "The Club" last night and was wondering what filters were used to create the look (I'm thinking they used anamorphic lenses). From what I heard most of of it was done in camera with very little tweaking in post but I haven't been able to find any concrete information. Can anybody help me out?

WOW. Nice fine.

From the distortion and bokeh - definitely looks anamorphic, no?

And my guess is there is some filtration - you notice it mostly on the blown out flaring windows, and sometimes in the milky washed out tones. While I'm tempted to think this effect comes from the lenses only (with older or stripped coatings), my gut says it could be something subtle like a lowcon (perhaps even a strong one). The movie doesn't have the even "fog" of a Promist, which is why I think a Lowcon.

Stanley Kubrick used various strengths of Lowcon on Barry Lyndon (shot spherically). On some of the stronger scenes, the look is comparable.

Take a look:

It looks like Xtal Anamorphics to me man. If I had to guess. No filtration either. Happy to hear what others think

Initially made by Cooke but now Panavision services them worldwide as fas as I know. Few sets running around in other rental houses too though

Watch Ex-MAchina and Neon Demon if you haven't which were both shot on them!

Great film "El CLUB" . I remember reading an interview with Larrain and Cinematographer, they talked about "OLD RUSSIAN ANAMORPHICS" . LOMO square Fronts is my guess...
