  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CineForm Offers NEO 4K-Mac for Red Support (BETA)

Craig, it would be brilliant if you just activate a folder and down the folder-tree ReMaster is searching for R3D files. This would be very convenient. For example with one click you could load all shots of a day at once. With your current structure it can be a bit tedious. If I remember correctly ReRushes is doing so.

Hans

Say you have your clips as A010_C001.. and so on then you could use the search function and type A010 RDC so that every RDC folder named A010 would appear, so you can select them all.

Also say you have A001 through A099, what you can do is search "A0 RDC" then you'll have all RDC folders appear, too.

Craig, I experienced with REDRUSH before, too, but I started to see the same issue from converting to CineForm Express clips. Some clips starts with a frame or two flashes in the beginning of the clip. Have you seen it?
Also, for some reasons, when I was converting many many clips (like several hundreds clips selected) then Remaster looked like converting but files won't show after converting some.

I know it sounds crazy to do that many, but ReMaster predicts it'll take only four hours to convert, so I wanted them to be done over night.

Kaku,

it's much easier: Say you have a Project folder which contains, with all the subfolders, all shots of say a whole shoting day. Simply click on the project folder and down the subtree all R3Ds are imported.

Slightly OT:

I just purchased Neo-Mac4K. I'm a bit under time-pressur and Cineform's workflow is bound to safe me time on a particular project I just finished shooting. In an e-mail of yours it states that in 24-48 hours I get my activation Key. Could you speed this up?

Kind Regards,

Hans

All sorted out! Thanks a lot,

Hans

Hans, that way didn't work for me although that usually works in other apps.
So, I select them by the way I explained.

And thank you for your report about the problem, too.

I hate selecting one by one, so had to come up with something :).

I don't know if I fall into that category, but I do spend a lot of time :).

There are two issues with the version you have that may cause the problem. 1) I have noticed that very short clips, less than 40 or so frames long, do not convert. 2) There is a memory leak in the conversion at the end of a clip. After some number of clips, the thread converting the clips will run out of memory. On an 8 core machine you probably have 4 tasks doing the conversion.
We will have an update in the next day with the memory leak fix.

I also saw clips inheriting fames from unrelated clip in the beginning, I guess that is from the memory leak issue, too.

We just posted a number of changes to the Red workflow. See the update log for details. Just a few that will be of interest: Converted files match RedAlert color and curve if you select "Red Space" on source and "R-Space" for the decoder curve metadata. This color and intensity curve is metadata, so you can change how it looks at any time. You can now independently select image size and frame size. This allows a center crop of the 2:1 source down to 1.85:1 and then letterbox into 1920x1080.

The problems with batches stopping, occasional watermarking etc. are fixed.

Update to ReMaster

Update to ReMaster

We just posted a new update to ReMaster for Red. Neo4K

This fixes a scaling error when making 4:4:4 2K/1080p masters form 4K. It was subtle, but we are perfectionists. It was due to a floating point precision error -- when 32-bits are not enough. Also corrects a problem with the Metadata for the encode and decode curves when converting to CineForm RAW. As a plus, there is a new panel in Set Active Metadata that lets you select the encode curve and decode curve. You can now select R-Space for decode.

Went to the website to download the newest update... Must of mixed the two installs again. Can we get a mac link please? Thanks :)

Try clicking on the "Neo4K" in the post above. It is a link to the download.

Hello Craig,

Maybe I'm not using Cineform codec the way it supposed to be used, but is it okay to grade Express clip with color filter like "Look", then output using Cineform codec to give it to compositing people look review then if it's accepted then apply the same color filter on 2K or 4K 444 files?

When I compare the output file in FCP to the original clip with the color filter, the ouput file look brighter. Can you think any reason for this?

Best,

Kaku

Edit: Sorry this could have been because of the video rendering setting, I'd go through again and let you know if it goes alright.
