Just got the cineform codec yesterday and getting super slow renderings from premiere. Is there any famouse pitfalls with cineform.

Mate you are absolutely right about it. I exported 30 minutes of red 4k footage in premiere pro cs6 as cineform 4:4:4 and it took 6 hours. I contacted cineform support 4 days ago and I am still waiting on reply from them. I paid good money to buy cineform plugin for premiere. 2 minutes of same footage takes approx 45 minutes to export. I have red rocket, nvidia gtx 680, ssd drive.. you name it, i have it on my editing system. can anyone help how to increase export speed? when I export same 30 minutes footage as mpeg 2, it takes only hour and a half (90 minutes). thanks

Are you exporting Cineform MOV? MOV was 3:1 (6 minutes for a 2 min clip) while Cineform AVI was a little faster than 1:1 for 1080p30 footage from within Premiere. The bummer is that AVI doesn't support timecode but points to the fact that Cineform's implementation of QuickTime may not be terribly optimized, or they may be restricted by QuickTime in some way.

I did export from avi and then choosed cineform in the dropdown list. But I learned today that I should instead choose the cineform avi instead. Yes its two places you can choose cineform for avi. The problem is that premiere only using 5% of the cpus while rendering with cineform. Cineform says that it is a Premiere issue with CineForm encodes. If you watch the windows taskbar, sometimes the CPU and RAM just sit there like its trying to decide what to do. We're needing Adobe to fix this for us.

I hope our heros from Adobe is reading this thread.

If you have heard from Cineform please ask them why they think it is Adobe. They know where to find us :) We work with them quite regularly and they haven't reported this issue.

Cheers

Dave

I can vouch for this...
when using cineform HDlink or command line tools cineform is pinging all 12 threads at 100%

And yes, never export cineform via"AVI" in PPRO, always use "cineform AVI", AVI will just use VFW(video for windows) and may only be 8 bit as well as other issues

IF you find render times too long, you could always render out to tiff, and run a command line DPX2CF utility....which will convert DPX and TIFF to cineform using 100% CPU.

Yesterday i got an answer cineform that was not good news at all. I post more details tomorrow. Im on a smartphone.

Alright, cineform has been in contact with adobe about this as far back as 2011. Cineform still needs help from Adobe to fix this issue but dont have any resources to do it right now.

Then I get sugested to render out 8bit instead to speed things up....Im not happy about this at all!

I dropped Cineform in 2011 - it's the most unstable codec available. With each update the footage would look different.. Glad I moved on.

So what codec are you using instead of cineform when you work in your editor and needs to ouput motiongraphic or vfx. I mean, dynmic linking is to slow for safe playback with no droped frames.
