This is, as someone else put it a while back, a cost related question. Will the Cineform codecs work with Blackmagic's Decklink HD Extreme cards now or in the future?

I've seen a post on the internet dating back to sometime in 2006 where David Newman is saying that Decklink support is a long way off for Prospect HD.

Is this still the case? Now that all these low cost solutions are becoming more of a reality for workflows, will there be decklink support to go with the new Cineform Raw/Red Raw codec that Cineform is working on?

I would like to use this decklink hd extreme card to send a 3 Gb/s SDI signal out to a 2K monitor, such as the Dell 30" LCD (using the BM HDLink Pro converter) from my PPro timeline. This is the lowest price solution I can come up with and would love for it all to work together. One big happy mangling of technology.

sempko, we've intended Decklink support for quite a while, and we've been communicating with BM on some problems with their drivers related to 3rd parties. This has unfortunately slowed us down. The good news is that we now believe we have figured out a workaround.

However, from the perspective of 2K monitoring, our first stop is the Xena 2K card (we currently support the LHe card). That will be followed by Decklink support. Expect Xena 2K support in August. I can't yet say when we'll have Decklink support, but hopefully early/mid 4Q.

what's wrong the dvi solution?

Not sure exactly what you're referring to?

If you mean Adobe's second monitor display support, then I am having trouble getting that to work at 10-bit 1080P as is elaborated on in this link. The edges look jagged on playback, but only on the second monitor and only in premiere (even with Uncompressed 10-bit render setting). Also, my external device is being detected as 60P (1920 x 1080) 8-Bit BGRA, so that wouldn't be what I'm after. Perhaps it is only my particular graphics card (nVidia GeoForce 8800 GTS)?

I presumed the Decklink card would be detected as 10-bit 2K device and would allow me to see things at that depth and resolution. Anyhow, if you could elaborate more on what you meant that would be appreciated. Maybe I don't need the decklink but rather a better graphics card.

David, thanks for the reply. That's not too far down the road for me. I was just hoping support was at least in the works. I'm glad to know that this might actually be an option for people this year.

Even if you get adobe/cineform and adobe/red configurations (plus a world of other pain) working thru a bm hd extreme, which crops 2k/24p to 1080p btw, you're still only seeing 8 bits on the dell/bm converter. so I suggested going native o/s dvi....if your 8800 doesn't do 2K, the nv280 will.
