Hey guys, longtime reader first time poster. I've been taken notice of all the new rehouse/cine-modding options available right now for various types of still-lenses like Nikon, Contax, and the wonders that Nan makes over at G.L. Optics. I've tried looking online but haven't found any answers to this question, so I figured I'd turn to you guys for help. I'm currently shooting with a set of Nikon zooms (17-35mm 2.8, 28-70mm 2.8, 80-200mm 2.8, and a Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 Nikon mount) but have been wanting for the longest time been thinking about trying to build a second set of lenses to shoot with. I've been doing some research on Asahi Takumar lenses and have been really interested in building together a set for personal projects.

My main question, is there any company/site out there that can cine-mod Takumar lenses? If not a full rehouse like what Nan is doing with the Contax Zeiss lenses at G.L.Optics, than perhaps just a simple iris declicking, delrin focus ring addition, and uniform diameter lens fronts? I don't really worry too much about trying to change the native M42 lens mounts since I'm using the Allstar A-Mount system on my Scarlet.

Thanks for the link Mike! However, I'm wondering if a smaller, tighter diameter focus gear would be a problem. I'm currently using the OConnor O-Focus (working up to upgrade to the CFF-1 in due time), and had to slide the bridge pretty close to the ring for the gears to catch. Not too much of a problem with the zooms. I have a few Nikon primes though and I had to get the larger Redrock rings to keep the O-Focus far out enough for the handwheel to be operable.

I have a Nikon 50mm 1.2 that I adore, but it was a nightmare to use before the Redrock rings. I did notice that some of my primes that didn't have grippy rubber on the focus rings didn't want to accept the Redrock rings easily. This is true of my older 135mm 2.8 prime. Fantastic portrait lens, but having to pull focus from the lens itself hasn't been as reliable as with a FF. Aren't the Takumars pretty small as well? That's sort of why I was hoping to find someone to send a few lenses to be rehoused with a larger body diameter. Figure I can always just get a few step-up rings from Duclos to get the uniform fronts and more Redrock rings if a full rehouse isn't an option.

Paul, I am in regular contact with Peter...and I am starting to help him with some marketing (watch for a brand-new RP Lens website coming very soon).

Feel free to PM or email me, if you can't reach him. Email: tom.g (at) compass.edu

Years ago I had a nice gear ring made for a narrow Lomo lens by JBK Cinequipt. I was on a budget so I got Delrin, but they do aluminum too. They will make the diameter of the lens larger where the gearing needs to meet a follow focus. I think they are still in biz, and a pleasure to deal with:
