Christian Filmmakers?

Christian filmmakers in my opinion are the ones that conduct themselves like Jesus would which btw is pretty hard and pretty rare. Pay fair wages, deal honestly, honor copyrights, give the little guys/gals a chance, encourage rather than discourage, treat others with respect and swallow their pride. If you find one, let me know, I'm not even close.

Now there's a good definition.

I'm a Christian and I abhor the state of so-called 'Christian' movies. None of my films to date have been Christian, nor have any of my scripts been.

The problem is religion, it's somehow convinced itself collectively that we should be 'clean'. Last I checked, the Bible pulled no punches in depicting murder, rape, incest, genocide, mutilation, war, etc.

I find Judd Apatow movies to have better values than most "Christian" movies.

This reminds of a the whole violence/sex dilemma. A asked a Mormon friend "So you're telling me you'd rather take your daugher to a movie where someone gets a flaming spear through the eyeball than one where a woman's nipple is shown?" His answer was "yeah, pretty much".

If that's "Christian" count me out.

No, no. Nothing like that. I don't like nipples [in movies :)] and explicit violence, cause it's.. cheap.

Not because of some moral rules, but because it's a cheap way to attract attention.

I won't have apparent violence in my short, just ... how to say... hinted violence [dunno the English one for this].

I want to hint at the violence, not show it directly.

I also like [hinted] nipples in movies. :)

And when i said brutal, I meant the context, not so much the visuals.

It's just a bunch of people killing each other.

These kind of things happen in life... and so do miracles.

But it's for a good cause, i want to show the darkness, so that the audience could recognize the light.

Something like that.

And Passion of the Christ was very brutal, wasn't it?

This is the opportunity that faces the Christian Filmmaker. You still have to have a compelling story and how you visually go about this will either separate you from the pack or not. If the goal of the story is to incorporate the Redemptive Message then you need inspiration from the Spirit and an accurate knowledge of Scripture. This is the reason movies like 'The Ten Commandments' and, now, 'The Passion of the Christ' stand above the rest and have long-lasting value. When it comes to producing something relating to the Kingdom of God that's the type of cinema I want to produce.

I'm reminded of a Scripture that helps me remember the most important thing that I have to be continually aware of. Ecclesiastes 12. 13-14

13 Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

By the way, I appreciate the fact that we can have this thread and discuss how to use Red for faith-based projects. Oftentimes, folks get off track. I would like to network with anyone who is moved of the Spirit to do major project with high-production value. For those interested, my company formed an online network for mature Christians who network in our professions and who love fashion, food and entertainment. It's growing and there are some seriously world class talent coming on board. You can check us out at www.TheJudahSet.com. We're in soft launch mode right now so to check it out you will have to sign-in and create a password to gain access. But, if you don't like it you can cancel it with no sweat.

Thanks...I have really enjoyed the ones that have been sincere, and I think it would be cool to have a "Red 4 Christ" forum, or something of that nature. :-)

My future plans are to possibly attend a Film school such as "Full Sail University"

My stepson attended Full sail (computer animation)and went on to work for Real FX(GI Joe),DNAhelix(Jimmy Neutron, Ant Bully) and now works for LAIKA outside Portland, OR.

Full Sail is a fine school. I don't know much about the film school but, as a school for computer animation, they are among the best

Good luck

I'm a Christian. Mostly involved in post, but I make about 2-3 short films a year. So I guess that makes me a Christian filmmaker.
Like Barry, I did the 168FF in 2007. I used the Viper since Red wasn't around and I got it donated from some Christian folks at Panavision.
My website is www.michaelcioni.com and my 168 film is called "Birthright."
I'm posted probably over 50 Red projects. One of which I just completed was a music video for the new Prince Caspian movie shot on Red. It's directed by a Christian Director, Brandon Dickerson, also pastor of Ecclesia Church in Hollywood (www.churchinhollywood.com).
It's called "This is Home." http://wereawakening.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Disney & Red

Is it independent from Disney, or did they shoot it on set? TELL ME MORE!!!

The film was shot 35mm. Only the music video was shot on the Red (Red31). But the images in the video cut back and forth between Red and 35 really well. Not speaking for the director, but I think everyone was happy all around.

Yes, but did you get to go to the different locations with the crew? and did you meet the crew?

No, I was at NAB during the shoot. Dino (Red31) was the tech on the shoot and camera provider. Brandon, (director) and I are good friends. They can answer any production questions if you have any...
