I'm in the process of "childproofing" (not really) my Red rental packages. I don't like the Zacuto Zdapter because if you loosen a rod and aren't careful, the whole Red Arm/LCD combo swings and falls and bashes against the side of the camera. I don't like the idea of anyone spinning the LCD around, or spinning the LCD and ARM around either.

I have tried putting a Zicromount permanently on the bottom of the Red LCD, but it gets unscrewed way too easily.

I just saw they made a Zicromount III , which they claim doesn't spin off of monitors.

Now I'm thinking of shipping my packages with the LCD and a Zicromount III permanently screwed into the bottom, and the Red Arm with a ZUD permanently attached to one end.

My question is, has anyone used a Zicromount III with a Red LCD, and does it work as well as they claim?

I'm also thinking of what to do with the other end of the arm, where it attaches to the camera. Are there any quick release products that won't come unscrewed from the camera? The Zicromount III uses a claw to stop the monitor from spinning, but it also has TWO places for screws. Does anyone know of the spacing of those two screws will work with a Red Universal mount, Top mount, or Side handle?

Is there anything I'm overlooking here? I just don't want my LCD or Red Arm to SPIN, or come accidentally swinging down and hit the camera if mounted on a Zdapter or Hydra clamp.

Also, they make these thin plastic protectors for iPods, you can't even scratch them with a knife. There are a lot of them out there, but there is one in particular that stands above the rest, I forget the brand name at the moment but my friend has one. I would love if something like this existed for the Red LCD, and I'm sure it does, or it could. One of my LCDs has a small insignificant scratch on it, they should be scratch resistant! Any ideas?

I love the look of the Hydra and plan on purchasing one soon. But for rentals on low budget indie films to Red first-timers, I would rather not have a Hydra in the equation.

Do you put this over the screen itself? Will it glare more?

Good idea. I have one of these for my iPod nano. Still works great even after almost 3 years of regular use.

I just ordered the one for the macbook air even though I don't have one. I figured I could cut it to the exact shape I need for the RED LCD. Will use the whatever is leftover for anything else that might need some scratch protection...

3M makes a film called ARMR200 that is tough and anti-glare. I wanted to order some, but the minimum order is about $500 worth. Might be an opportunity for a group buy. The material is amazing.

Is the adhesive easy to remove if you decide to remove the cover some day? That would be my only concern. If it doesn't leave any kind of residue, then I'll be buying one.

Steve, yes, it is easy to remove and leaves zero residue. I had to remove it from my iPod when I first put it on (went on crooked).

The only problem is you have to be very careful about not touching the sticky side. I now have a perfect fingerprint on my iPod from accidentally touching the adhesive while removing it. I guess I'll just have to make sure not to leave my iPod at the scene of the crime.... :shiftyph34r:

it may scratch easy.. but its a .50 cent solution. PLUS you have a gap between the actual LCD screen and the protective screen. I use to have a Zagg screen protector on my lcd.. I ditched it fast.

You do of course realize that the gaff tape is going to leave an unholy nasty mess that is going to suck monster ass to clean up right?

Nick

ya just swap the tape out every now and then and you'll be fine.

And yes no matter how good the screen protector stuff is it just can't protect against impacts or deep scratches. You will always be safer with a second layer and a gep between.

it hasnt been an issue yet.

i usually put fresh tape on after a long shoot or if its been in the heat for a while.

im on the look out for some snaps that can go in the corners.

Whoa - that is so ghetto! Can you see the picture thru thru the glare and scratches?

And you call yourself a Ninja...

actually. i have yet to have scratches on it.. theres some hair on it in the picture.. but it brushes off.

the glare isnt bad. i had an impossible glare with the iphone sticker thing.

Anyone making a hood for the RED Pro 7" LCD that lets you access buttons on top?

I just put some ZAGG on my LCD to protect from scratches, but now I need to get rid of the glare.

I didn't do a perfect job putting on the sticker, but I can always put another one on later....
