:w00t: Beauty and power.

I think you would basically have to mount an expedition to get up to Glacier Point this time of year! I'm not sure, though.

Joshua Tree is snowed in with 15" I hear. The last time I remember that happening was christmas morning, 1978.

Yosemite is at its best in the winter. It is always beautiful, but it is stunning with snow.

Really tom I've come to expect something of a higher quality nature from you. I am disappointed. I can't believe you'd even post this dribble. Don't even think of blaming the poor image quality on the cold. You might try checking the iso setting on your camera. I blew the image up to screen size and I think I saw some compression artifacting around the highlights and by the shadows or something and dude....dude, dude,dude,dude.........d..u..d..e..think about your rep before you post this crap.

:innocent: Ok so it makes me want to go skiing and hiking in the back country.

Tom: if you make it further north this year let me know. I do a little back packing and have some killer spots for your time lapse stuff. I grew up backwoods and I think your work is beautiful

I know of a few places where the air is clear and cold and the nights are surreal

Merry Christmas all

Wow!
Not the day for a 10 hours timelapse tom.:cold::)

Wowwww!!!

Nice picture Tom!

Yes, and highly recommended. I learned how to cross country ski on that very trip. We parked at Badger, skied to and spent the first night on Sentinel Dome. It snowed eight inches while we slept. The second night on Glacier Point. Good times :-)

Happy Holidays!

That sounds awesome!!

I would really, really love to do that. Was this with an outfitter group? Can you give me any further info about it?

Merry Christmas indeed!

You know, I think Drew and his dad might own some land up in Redding. Maybe this summer we can all do some shooting up that way -- maybe even a couple different kinds of "shooting" if you know what I mean (Europeans, pay no attention!)...haha. I rarely venture north of Bridgeport and the high sierras, and I know I am missing a bunch of awesome stuff up your way. Thanks for the offer.

Damn Tom, this looks even better than most Swiss spots right now.
Yosemite is and will always be a killer spot.
It realy looks beautiful.
Ah and yeah your RED needs a sensor check. :sarcasm:

Merry Christmas

It was Awesome..... But, that's coming from a guy who has spent close to 200 nights in the high country, back packing (75% of that in Yosemite). It's not for everyone. Really.

If you're in shape.... You know how to cross country ski...... Can read a Topo map...... Have experience winter back packing in snow.......

Then all you have to do is get a permit from the park rangers ( in advance ) detailing your plans. And prey for fair weather.

The Road to glacier point is shut down to vehicles in the winter and becomes a cross country ski path. So, at badger pass where the ski lift is, that's where you would put those skis on, and then just stay on / follow the road, until your behind Sentinel Dome, then you have to leave the road and head for the base of the dome. Of course you have to actually hike and climb to the top. Be prepared for some of the most beautiful views you've ever seen.

It sounds easier than it really is. Please do not attempt that type of winter pack by yourself. There are dangers in winter that the casual summer back packer can not imagine.

Having an expert outdoors man with you would be good, and one that knows Yosemite well, even better.

If you decide to do this, give me a call, for a few tips and Yosemite secrets :-)

Haha, hell no I would not attempt that on my own. Aside from skiing, I'm not big on winter outdoor activities, to be honest! I like "cupcake camping" in the Sierras in the summer, so I can relax in a hammock or walk around in my sandals and shorts, never too far from the nearest small-town cafe! :)

My Dad and I do have some property about 30 minutes West of Redding near Whiskey Town Lake, which is really awesome. On my way back from Canada last week when that storm was rolling through I got some cool timelapse footage of the clouds on the lake. When I get home I'll make sure to post them.

Tom, if you and Blownapart wanted to get together out there for some shooting and some Red shooting we could do that. Even though I would suggest going out to AZ up towards Payson because the camping and scenery out there is amazing.

A frame grab from the Red of course.
