Thanks for all the input guys. i think what im worried about is if my drive setup will have (say, i did a software raid 150 mb/s) enough speed to deal with scarlet footage? no doubt in the future i will drop the cash on a system like what frank suggested. My issue right now is ive got a bunch of oem drives of different brands and different capacities and different speeds. i dont trust em any more. (except my ssd which was a useless purchase at 64gb) i could throw all these drives into an enclosure like a d-link for cheap and have my backup ready to go. I have alot of files i want backed up 3tb+. So i think for now considering my budget i should go with a software raid with 4 1tb western digital black drives (i understand these are a good choice) then when im ready, buy 4 more and make a real monster of a raid. i would have backup totally separate from the raid. the only thing i hate about that is if i would have to backup manually every time i added files to the comp.
what makes a drobo box better than the d-link is it worth the extra 300?
