I am looking into striping down our Red-One to the bare essentials, mainly because we're going to be backpacking it into remote locations, like forests, etc.

To make it light weight, I'm doing the following:

1- 12" Carbon Fiber top rails (on two Top Mounts)

2 - Top Handle

3 - Camera "directly" mounted to tripod plate (no bottom plate, shoulder mount, or bottom rails).

4 - Red EVF on Articulating Arm (no monitor).

5 - One zoom lens.

6 - Battery Belt Clip (on hip to carry battery)

7 - 640GB Red Drive

8 - Red Drive "mount" ????

I am using the two rails and the two Top Mounts because I don't think the camera could be carried safely with only one Top Mount and the Top Handle. It seems to me that it would put too much strain on just one Top Mount alone. If this is not so, please let me know.

Unfortunately, we cannot afford the SSD set up right now, so we have to use Red Drives.

* What I want to know is if any of you have figured out a cheap, light weight, quick way to attach these hard drives to the camera.

BTW - Is there a drive mount that would attach to an articulating arm? If so, how, and where?

Your advise, suggestions, and recommendations as to what might work, would be greatly appreciated. The website, where I may find this mount would be nice too.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks Joe.

I am aware of the Element Technica mount, but that's not what I would call cheap OR light.

I was just hoping there might be something out there that is nothing more than a clamp of sorts. I have the Innocinema RaidRacks on our other Red-One and love those, but they are also not cheap, and you need rails. I'm trying to see if some kind of mount exists without the need for rails that could maybe attach to one of the 1/4" screw holes in the Top Mounts.

Thanks anyway.

IMHO, you definitely need the Red top handle extension with the Red top handles bridging two top mounts for security. With your lightweight setup, you might get away with just the top handle and one top mount, but there's an awful lot of leverage on two bolts and not much CAST metal around those bolts otherwise. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Yea, I think you're right.

I was just hoping that with a top set up like that, I could somehow still mount the Red Drive without the need for rails, but maybe not.

Thanks.

Hi George,
There is Actionproducts/Innocinema's solution, which is not too expensive ($179), definitely simple and light weight : http://www.innocinema.com/product_info.php?products_id=106
Otherwise you could go for the Deadly Calavera, a little more expensive ($295), but would fit in great with your compact rig, and doesn't require rails : http://www.deadlycine.com/servlet/the-1/Calavera/Detail
Here's the page on Reduser showing the Deadly Calavera configurations : http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?36305-deadly-CALAVERA-(limited-intro-offer)
Cheers,
Damien
