So while at Costco I saw an LED "work light" typical garage type light. I thought "what the heck" it was only $22 and change. When I tested it the color was amazingly close to accurate, no green or magenta spike, just ever so slightly warm, but very slightly and a tiny bit of warm is not a problem with me. I think I'll pick up a few more for when I need some quick and dirty extra lights on the set. It's pretty bright, daylight and nearly clean, it's not dim-able but it's $22. Next test is to see how it handles flickers at various Frame rates.

Hi Mark,

I couldn't find the light on Costco's site. But I started looking around and found this 20W:http://thd.co/1EhPEhh Think they're similar?

The first review from Horace says it is "about 5000K" and he uses two for video lights.

AND then I found this other 20W unit from Ryobi that takes a battery: http://thd.co/1Ckl5rp

I'm trying to find the color temp. It'd be cool if it was the same LED as the one above, but it's slightly higher output makes me doubt it.

Ok, more info, The one I have is a 25W - 2000 lumens from Snap-on tools. it seems to be about 5000K but no noticeable green or magenta spike. if found that if you are shooting above 40FPS you need to use certain shutter speeds and nothing over 120th of second, I didn't try 240, I'm guessing it would be OK. I did a test at 72FPS at 120th. shutter and it looked great. this unit isn't a single chip LED but an array of about 48 tiny LEDs

Thanks for posting, Mark. I'd be keen to see some tests, especially with some skin tone in frame. Are you shooting MX or Dragon?

I've had a bunch of warm white LEDs and a daylight one I use as a hair light and I find the colour is so hit-and-miss, usually with an annoying green spike.

The good thing about Costco is that they will take almost anything back if you buy it and don't like it.

The bad thing is that sometimes they will carry an item for only a limited amount of time. Several times I've see a hardware item that looked great, but a month later it's sold-out or discontinued, never to return...

I was there today, and saw some hanging tube lights for a garage....about 2 1/2 feet long

Probably a hundred LED's in there....3500 Lumens, 4500k and a CRI of about 85.
50$

This is in Canada...but should be in US as well
