  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cheap batteries

I've seen those around. I'm working with some people on a new battery solution at the moment. Lets see how that turns out.

Hey Greg,
Try the Big Global media ones, I use the 160's as I travel with them but they also do 230. The 160's last me around 2.5hrs so you should get over 3 hrs with them. Also chat to John E as I believe they are doing a module so you can fit 2x red bricks inside the housing. They may also allow for the rear SSD reader to solve that issue too.

which 160s you have Jon? Also there is HW version that says %33 more power

im gonna go with 160s but still thinking about which one i choose...

Some thoughts
- you cannot take these batteries on airplanes if they are more than 100kWh which is not so good when you get that tropical paradise shoot...
Myself I use the PagLinks, very cool that you can connect many batteries together. The travel charger is also very cool since you can charge 3 batteries at one time and it's really small.
However they are expensive, 230 pounds for each battery (you dont need the T battery, E is fine).

One thing to watch out for is that the bigger batteries sometimes can interfering with other things on the camera. I had a very high battery and it hit the top handle which made it hard to fit.
Good luck
Andreas

Just got 3 more from these guys.

They take about 2-3 weeks. They also start with a tracking number from China's postal service that stops somewhere around Shanghai when it leaves China (but if you email them a week after it stops, they can tell you where it's at - which most likely is near you clearing customs by then).

Funny, I always get thrown off cause they link the Chinese version of the website first (where there's a link to the English version at the top right). Also, the shipping site asks for a verification that I thought the seller didn't send me...turns out it's merely a random verification code generated by the site (to prove you are not a robot). Threw me off but funny since it was me just being nervous.

The best part seems that the seller takes care of customs for you (to get it in the country...or at least here in Canada they do).

The chargers look like power brick adapters for a laptop but lighter. You change them individually but that's why it's one brick per battery.

Anyhow, I've bought on 3 separate occasions now and still impressed by them. They earn their high ebay score.

Sorry, new to reduser. For Wil Wong. See previous post above.

These have been bought and used by many Red users on this site, including me. They are fabulous. They have a brick to charge them up versus the sliding mount but it's portable and great for transport.

Just to add. I purchased one of these batteries Wil Wong mentioned. It took 2 weeks to arrive to me today. It came with a portable charger and took about 5 hours to charge it. (maybe less). Used it with a RED Battery Belt clip and powers the Scarlet showing Voltage. Also powers the R1 but only shows "DC". Will need to run some tests to see how much power on time is possible.
