  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Changing the world...

The deal is for battle tested ones. Until they are all gone....

How long is the red one deal going for Jim?

I've been telling a few people about it, that might get benefit. But I've decided to hold off it myself, as I really want 4kp50 or p48 (reluctantly as we can speed it up to p50) and there is still so many thousands of dollars extra till we get a shooting system. But, if it is meant to continue until the next end of life product, any chance of a 4kp50 boost and spec boost with latest sensor revision, and basic shooting package?

I could see how this could take the place of the fixed price category for now, which would really be great for the lower end industry, but a different beast from the Scarlet X.

Hmm.. I might as well publicaly say and announce it here, that I did post on dvinfo that my prize for first low cost cinema camera from our group, was withdrawn a few years ago due to lack of activity, but due to moderation, the post is not up there. However, I still intend to (probably) send it out to somebody, and it is worth more laughs than the Mk5d Hitler shares his thoughts on the Black Magic camera (which was hilariously funny). I have to decide who I should send it to, Apertus made an effort, but never even seen a pro worthy fullhd system from them, just 'Plans' that sat for years (like the compact flash or other raw recording in a working shooting system) or BM, that probably comes as a result of one of our guys carousing around, but not really from us, and now Red One cheap, but still above $5k in a shooting package.

The mass buy price (and I mean buckets loads more units ) used to be $2k, but due to inflation, it is probably closer to $4k, so a system under $5k with 4k would be nice.

Thanks.

That was awesome! haha

I don't care what people "think" the used market will be for the Red One M or MX, etc. This is the best deal out there. Buying a refurbished Red One MX for $4K is crazy! I can't imagine selling it used with accessories for anything less...not that I would ever want too!!! :)

Always thought of RED being an enabler for world change, which of course, if true, means that you are in fact changing the world. Sort of a chicken, egg, sperm thing.

I want to amend the above statement. After reading Jarred's thread about the new products and content distribution network, I understand Jim's statement about changing the world. Those who have time on their hands to use for just thinking will understand that RDC has and is about to change the world. Those who are busy with their jobs and pursuits will just be the worker bees to Jim's Queen Bee status and soon to be Queen Bee Emeritus as Jarred assumes the Queen Bee role. They/we will enjoy the fruits of the Queen Bee birthing of new effective products. Once this sinks in, there will be great joy throughout the land.

I do wish the Scarlet would get a little speed bump to shoot 5k @ 23.98 and faster 4k. That would be an amazing xmas present. Oh and maybe 4k out uncompressed on Epic and Scarlet.

Is this post a framing to a very near future Dragon announcement perhaps? Would love to see the final specs and samples. Hoping for a killer update to keep Epic in the lead!!

To me... any number of companies could change the world. It is about who wants to change the world, not who is just trying and keep up.

It is about vision for the future... it is about leading.

It is about caring for the consumer. It is about performance and price.

We aggressively throw our hat in the ring.

Jim

Being bold, going against the grain and more importantly progress does not come without pain for any of us. What have other companies done to give us what we want?

Was it Canon who didn't even have the foresight of the DSLR revolution which was an "accident"? Or was it the slew of other manufacturers who protected their high-end game while selling crippled electronic equipment in tiers to the rest of us?

Those guys certainly did not change anything until they had to - let's not any of us here forget that.

... :-)

i want to shake hands and look into the eyes of everyone that speaks and feels like this,
no matter of the scale, size and implied significance of the cause, every bit counts, everything matters.
unfortunately, it is a rare breed and hard to find ...

... it is the fine line, that makes it all worthwhile ...
It is an honor, to share this space with you, Sir.

Filming something then seeing it projected humongous on a screen, got to be the best thing ?
I mean if RED allows me acquire & deliver whats in my head at full cinema….BOOOOMMMMM….thats all i want even if its just me that sees it…..crazy i know
I don't plan to make money, as an artist that would be silly, also to comment on the business stuff would be even more so.
Im yet to see 4k but i'm sure running like Forrest Gump to catch that ball jim talks about.

It is the best thing, and it's not crazy, it's how it's supposed to be.

I hope you (and many others, including me) get to experience it.

I haven't seen 4K yet either, but I grew up with 16mm and Super-8 and even those can blow you away when it's your own stuff, projected big, especially in front of an audience.

On a different note, I think it'll be interesting to see how people deal with suddenly having the option to compose and grade their shots for viewing on a much much larger screen. What works when projected big doesn't always work when viewed small, and vica versa. In fact, the difference can be dramatic, with details getting lost on the smaller screens and camera movements becoming overwhelming on a larger screen for example. I guess it's obvious, but with people in general having been forced to make and view their images on small screens for so long, there might be some adjustments to make if affordable 4K+ projection does take off like I hope it does. It could even contribute to the creation of a new kind of cinema/film style. If all these people that have grown up with all these new film-making tools, but without seeing their stuff projected, suddenly apply all their modern technologies to full-screen versions of their films/projects, it's bound to result in us as an audience seeing styles or approaches to cinema we've never seen before.

I myself, personally and artistically speaking, am looking forward to the opportunity of never having to make an image for a small screen again, unless I choose to.
