I suggest here a list of internet viewable clips that showcase Red looking un-indy, glossy, high-end and, well, film-like.

Acting and story are very important, of course, but here we set that aside and seek out image examples of yummy, high-pop images that one would be hard-pressed to say do not shot look as good or better than recent 35 stock.

There are some shots like that on the MX reel, and another example I would state is McGruber, but I'm sure many others have also
done glossy, glossy, clean stuff that doesn't, even a tiny bit, have that "shoulder-mounted shot-in-actor's 1-bedroom apartment that needs a paint job and without pro makeup" look.

This thread could become a resource for convincing certain clients.

the RED reels seem to showcase the cameras quite nicely. the rest should showcase you and/or your company, no?

No helpful links yet? Come on guys!

I mean to use this thread only for showcasing CAMERA CHOICE, not at all our ability to do everything else. All we want to do is show that Red can have very good and high-sat color reproduction as a technical fact.

Of course we have our own reel. :frown2: Problem is, most of it was shot on 16 or 35. People say GREAT! I want THAT! And then we often shoot 35 or 16, which leads to much shorter rushes, and 16, in my opinion, looks way less good than MX in many ways.

Worse still is when we get a client who asks for Canon Betacam. Then I just turn down the job, because no matter what, to me, a line-skipped essentially SD resolution image is always ugly in that one way.

The more good work is showcased, and not just grungy-looking stuff (much of the Red MX reel turns my fashion clients off - they say it too looks grungy - you and I can argue but they are not cam techs, and they cannot be blamed for taking the seeing is believing approach) , or low-sat stuff (Book of Eli - which they also say looks dirty and harsh - of course this works for the film, but hopefully you see my point) the easier it is to get a client to agree to Red instead of 35 or 16.

Canon Betacam had Reverie - clients still tell me about that stupid thing - we need a list of Reverie-like camera-tech demo-worthy clips here, pro or spare time, that do not look indy, but glossy, fashion, sexy. This would be useful to me, and I'm sure others here.

I can then point clients to this thread, and help them see that I am not alone is believing that MX is a good choice, and that whatever I am pitching to them, that I am maybe doing for the first time as a lighting type and so is not already on my own reel, or is only on my reel from 35/16, is possible and will look good on MX.
