I know these questions have probably been covered somewhere...so perhaps someone could point me too the answers. I have a hard time getting good responses to searches and there is alot of blah blah in the posts.

So

1) What are the possibilities of different formats? CF, RAID, AND RED DRIVE

I assume the RAID is the only one to do 4k uncompressed?

2) Does only the REDPORT do 4k uncompressed.

3) Are CF and Red Drive equal in terms of what bandwidths/formats they can acquire?

4) Can the RED capture to a non-RED drive. For instance can i plug in a Seagate External E-sata drive directly to the camera

Thanks in advance

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

1) That's right - other than that CF and Red-Drive are currently slated to handle the same framerates/frame size options. CF is the only currently available media. Red-Drive should follow soon - no ETA as yet on the Red-RAID.

2) Correct again!

3) Yup, afaik - or at least both above the bottleneck of the compression engine in the camera, so any extra bandwidth is extraneous (that may change in future though, if a more efficient compression codec is written and/or better FPGA's become available).

4) No, Red-Drive only - it uses a proprietary LEMO connector supplying both power and an e-sata data link. I would guess it would be possible to build a 3rd party housing that would work fine, but an off-the-shelf e-sata enclosure won't do it. Also, the Red-Drive is actually a 2x 2.5" SATA RAID 0 striped array, to facilitate the recording speeds necessary, so a single disk solution won't cut the mustard even if you get it to talk to the camera...

Hope that helps!
