I am trying to download files from the 16g card without luck.

Is there some software needed from red to do this? or will any CF external reader work?

not all readers work. Try getting the sandisk extreme firewire reader. works great.

I didnt try any other card readers but i have a lexar and it works perfectly , if ur working on a mac , select all , drag and drop . You dont need any software to download ur CF.

Sally, I would re-think this. R3D data Manager has caught some errors for me that would not have been caught as quickly via drag-drop. 16GB cards have not been as easy to download as the 8GB cards due to a variety of reasons, although when the recommendations from RED are followed, usually they are okay. To each his own, but I have been very happy with checksum software.
