Buy a bunch of the Lexar cards, test them out and return the ones that don't live up to the specs.
O.K. It seems to me the main thing is that the card needs to be UDMA and a min. of 300X read and write. There are Lexars and a few others that meet this criteria. In fact Delkin makes a 16GB UDMA 305X card (299.00 at www.mydigitaldiscount.com) and ATP has an 8GB 300X card at $149.00, the Lexar professional is the same price as the Red 8GB which is made by Lexar. I my be missing something here, but I don't think the Red cards made by Lexar have been altered or specially desiged in any way, They are just fast UDMA CF cards. I am going to try the 16GB card by Delkin and see how it works. Stay tuned.
