Now that we have CDL's in RCX (10 values) - should not be long before we see them in .RMD files. That's the next step we need.

But ....

What would be CRAZY AWESOME is to get CDL's into RCP as soon as possible.

Of course ... it's a selfish request because our OMOD video processing board can actually parse and read RCP commands - so - FoolControl or LiveGrade could pass CDL's to the camera over WIFI - the camera (in the case on non-Weapon) doesn't even need to do anything with the values - they just pass onward out the serial - they get parsed and read on the OMOD board and then a CDL is applied to a monitor path - and even if you have a non-Weapon (Epic Scarlet, Dragon) - we could apply the CDL in realtime on an SDI monitor path.

That would make a lot of folks very happy - pre-Weapon. And obviously ... you really want that feature in Weapon.

How do you get the CDL information out of the .RMD files for an edit session? I know how to do it within Resolve for dailies, but I'm curious how this would be done outside this environment for (say) an edited reel of different shots spread across many different shoot days.

CDL's just showed up in the latest RCX - which does not yet write the CDL values to the RMD - but I suspect that is imminent.

Since the .RMD is an XML file with a list of values and also contains the R3D shot name - it's pretty trivial to parse these values out. With respect to integration - that would depend on whatever application you are using - and it's support for CDL. If the application supports CDL import - like Resolve or Scratch, etc. - it would just read the CDL values from the RMD and apply them. I have been told that both FCP X and Premiere are going to support CDL import soon.

For AVID - you could, for example, adjust your CDLs in RCX over the RAW footage - and then spit out an ALE with CDL information from RCX. Import that into Avid and it merges with the clips the bin and applies the CDL on a per clip basis (this working on v7 and up).

Since Pomfort LiveGrade Pro is now the industry standard - it would smart of RED to make a simple tool to batch import CDLs created in that application and write those CDLs into the .RMD inside RCX - but Promfot or a Reduser could just provide a simple Applescript to do it if RED doesn't - since it would be very, very simple.

Speaking of Pomfort - this is a pretty simple, slick, FREE tool for DPs -
