Hi there, I'm about to purchase cases to protect all my equipement, and while I was discussing various options, the color of the case was mentioned. At first, I was set on black, as it is somewhat a standard, however one rep said that in his opinion, black was not a good color because once you go outside it becomes very easy to get lost. Say, there's a boat accident, the case might becomes quite hard to find one the side of a river, especially when the light isn't optimal.

Since we'll be doing both narrative sets and wildlife/nature shootings, I'm kind of split between both side. I can't wrap my head around the idea of carrying a yellow case, however his arguments were, I think, justified.

What's your thoughts/experience in this matter?

We use Black, Grey Green for filming kit. Orange or Yellow for safety kit.

The problem is not usually on the side of rivers but in airports when there's about 4 film crews getting off a baggage carousel all with black Peli's.

I've been through Miami airport 10's of times every time baggage goes missing.

I've gone the other direction after working for many years in corporate photography. My cases are yellow or orange with yellow reflective tape. Lighter color reflects sunlight better and if it ever does start walking away in the wrong hands, it's really easy to spot against a sea of black cases. Sort of a Robert Frost, "The Road Not Taken", approach.

Well Id agree with that. Ours do have a positive identifier on them. But Im not saying what that might be apart from the fact it is very visable.

I also go for the colorful versions after forgetting a dark case in the wild once with a 10mm zeiss ultraprime in it (of course, it was still there when we realized it and went back).

When I travel, I see my orange-yellow cases so much faster on the conveyor belt and on the carts.

Can established companies Clairmont Camera that uses yellow and Panavision mostly white cases be that wrong ?

My 2 cents.
