What's the difference between these:
microRods CF - Carbon Fiber 18 Inch - $99.00
CARBON X 18-in ROD (each) - $150
Both of them are carbon, agree? What's the difference then, just the price?
Has anyone tested any of the 2 rods?

Thanks!

They are different. CARBON FIBER is a woven rod. CARBON X is not woven - see our image on RED.com: http://www.red.com/store/product_detail/151 .

It would be nice to have some more info on these Brent...it's hard to tell much from a jpeg photo on a web site why we should spend $150 on a rod. Since I'm not a carbon fiber expert, the difference between woven and not woven doesn't mean much to me.

I submitted a question to RED several days ago asking about the difference between the 2 types of RED rods (weight, durability, etc.), but haven't received a reply.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could give you a description of a CARBON X over REDUSER that gave the CARBON X RODS justice, but it is tough to do. They are extremely lightweight with incredible strength. I can put a 24" across the arms of my chair and sit on it (I am 200 lb) and it is like a rock.

If you do a lot of handheld, they are well worth the price when you take into account weight reduction from an equivalent setup with stainless steel rods.

Yeah I got my hands on these at NAB and I was sold, incredibly light...for sure the lightest ones I have seen, great design as well. I purchased a set of these for personal use, not so much for rental unless they are requested of course. ;)

It would still be nice to have some *hard* facts concerning these rods. I mean the only place where I can have some idea in comparison is on the Element Technica website:

Weight Comparison:
- 15mm Stainless Steel, 12" length - 240 grams
- 15mm Ultra Rods, 12" length - 85 grams

Are the RED Carbon X rods much lighter than the Element Technica ones?

Is anyone using the RED Carbon X rods in the field? Do the flex a lot?

Thanks for your feedback.

- 19mm ET Ultra Rods 18" length - 400 grams

-19mm RED Carbon X Rods 18" length - 158 grams

I've got the steel ones somewhere around here, but they're quite a bit heavier. I can only assume the 15mm Carbon X 12" just kind of float in midair.

I've found that the Carbon X perform better too. They seem too slide through the mounts more easily than the steel.

Think of them performing like steel in terms of strength. They don't flex. Brent said he sat on them and they held his weight no problem, I believe it (not gonna do that experiment with my own rods, I think I'll take his word for it :) ).
