  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

With the economy being as … well, we all know how it is. I thought I would make the effort to see if I could get the guys over at ActionProducts in Switzerland to do a group buy on some of their other cool stuff. So I convinced Brian and Daryl to do one on their 19mm carbon fiber rods.

Rod Info
ActionProducts carbon fiber rods are hollow rods that have been manufactured using a very low angle of cross wrapping with the carbon fibers, (see picture). After wrapping, the rods are then machined down to exact 19mm tolerances. By using this method the finished rods are slightly stiffer than aluminum rods while being half the weight.

Carbon Fiber Weight per Rod
12” rod = .11 lbs per rod
18” rod = .17 lbs per rod
24” rod = .23 lbs per rod

Aluminum Weight per Rod
12” rod = .27 lbs per rod
18” rod = .41 lbs per rod
24” rod = .50 lbs per rod

Details of the group buy
Rods will only be sold in same size pairs (2x 12”, 2x 18”, 2x 24”) or in a ProPack. A ProPack consists of 2x 12” rods, 2x 18” rods and 2x 24” rods. ProPacks are only available with sizes stated.

Group buy discount:
5 to 10 orders: 10% discount
11 to 20 orders: 15% discount
21 or more orders: 20% discount

Regular prices of the rods are as follows:
One pair of 12” rods is …………$250.00
One pair of 18” rods is …………$296.00
One pair of 24” rods is …………$396.00
ProPack is………………………$798.00. (Once again, the ProPack consists of 2x 12” rods, 2x 18” rods and 2x 24” rods, only available with sizes stated.)

Prices if we have a total of 5 to 10 orders:
One pair of 12” rods is …………$225.00
One pair of 18” rods is …………$266.40
One pair of 24” rods is …………$356.40
ProPack is……………………….$718.20

Prices if we have a total of 11 to 20 orders:
One pair of 12” rods is …………$212.50
One pair of 18” rods is …………$251.60
One pair of 24” rods is …………$336.60
ProPack is……………………….$678.30

Prices if we have a total of 21 or more orders:
One pair of 12” rods is …………$200.00
One pair of 18” rods is …………$236.80
One pair of 24” rods is …………$316.80
ProPack is……………………….$678.30 - IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the already reduced regular price on a ProPack, the discount on a ProPack is limited to a maximum of 15%.

Shipping, import tariffs and local taxes, if applicable are not included in the price of the rods or the discount of the group buy.

The group buy starts now and will be open until April 10th, 2009; delivery of rods will happen in the first half of the month of May.

Participant’s payments are due two weeks before shipping, to ActionProducts.
Methods of payment are bank transfer and credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only).

Have allready bought mine from the Shop. 18 & 12 inch for $550 - so I don't really see the pitch...

Jonas there is no pitch, I am not a sales man for Action Products I am just trying to get a better deal on some carbon rods.

You said that you bought your 12" and 18" rods from The Shop for $550.00, strange, that price is more than the Action Products standard price without the discount.

What I am trying to do here is to get enough buyers so we can get a discount, example would be if we had 10 buyers then your price on the your 12" and 18" rods would have been $491.40, better deal don't you think?

I guess maybe my original post doesn't explain this well enough so I will change it to show real numbers.

I know you WROTE the economy was bad, but I don't think you really took it into account. When funds are tight, the first thing more owner/operators do is say "well, I already have "x" and it works ok so I don't need to spend money on "y".

Rods are easy to get. And cheap. RED has steel and aluminum as does Element Technica. In my opinion, except for a certain few, this is a luxury item, ESPECIALLY in this economy.

Many may disagree... And that's perfectly fine, but I can tell you, it's my point of view, that's for sure.
