Wasn't quite sure where to post this... sorry if it's not properly categorized.
I want to replace the system/applications drive on my main system. I currently have a 640GB hard drive (where OSX and apps live)... but I'm running out of space.

I've just purchased a 2 TB internal drive and would like to move everything (including all applications) from the old 640GB drive to the new 2TB drive.

My questions are:

1. Will using Carbon Copy Cloner work & is it the best application to use?

2. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for the transfer?

3. Has anyone else gone this route, and, if so, have there been any glitches or bugs (in applications or OSX) after the transfer?

thank you,

Michael

This is a great way to do it. However, for best results and least possibility of glitches after the transfer, you will want to do a block mode copy of the hard drive. CCC does this by default, however it must gain exclusive access to the drive, so it means you cant be currently using it as your system drive to do it.

There are lots of ways to boot from another source, such as another Mac, external drive, etc.. I always keep an external drive with a bootable partition handy just for the purpose of making block-level images of my system drive for backup and for other maintenance tasks.

So I guess the next question is what type of system is this (Im assuming a Mac Pro)? Do you have another Mac / Macbook / etc.. handy you can boot from? Or an external HDD you could use? Other drives?

copy cloner is perfect
go shure to use the latest version for snow osx
remove all other hds to not go confused:)
after cloning you got a a real original and one system backed up - the old one
take you time to verify disk permissions on the cloned disk
all run fine even prefs and lics

best ones
more space is goooood for hds and brain

Thanks for the quick response guys.
My system specs are:

- Mac Pro 2 X 2.6 GHz Quad Core Inel Xeon
- 16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM
- OSX 10.6.3
- OS/ App Drive = 640GB OSX Extended (Journaled) with only (2.2 GB left... eek !)
- I also have a 1TB internal drive for media

Installed on this system is:

- Kona 3 card
- Red Rocket Card
- Current FCS Suite
- All sorts of Red software
- Adobe CS4

I do have a laptop that I could use to boot from, but I've actually never gone through this procedure before. Is it fairly straight forward?

once again guys - I really appreciate sharing the knowledge.

best,
Michael

bump. Hey Jeff sorry to bother you. Just checking to see if you had any additional info on this process before I dive in.
thanks so much.
