How much love are people having capturing the SDI out? I have tried both 50hz and 59hz with two different REDS. I have built a split system running a BM Multibridge Pro. Both camera's give the same results of a little SDI Speckle on the signal and then full frame signal loss. Using the same system I have tested it from several other sources including a deck, three other edit suites and a EX1 and have no problems with any of those sources. I have also run the signal through VDA to reclock the SDI but still no love. Any thoughts?

Cheers, Chris

Cables? Element breakout box or adapters?

I know this is stupid, but were both the camera (SDI out- 50hz), camera's project (25fps), and computer (50hz and 25fps) all set to similar settings?

The computer won't see a single thing if the settings don't match. Most of the test were done 50hz 25p project. But I did try every other combo with no love.

Cheers, Chris

Have you tried all three SDI outs? how about that plus genlocking it to the reference on the BM

I have tried all three SDI outs. I have almost no signal out of the preview. I don't see why I should have to genlock to the blackmagic as I have no problem capturing any other source, and also don't want to be running multiple leads to the camera on set. Are you able to capture with no problems from your camera?

Cheers, Chris

I was just stabbing in the dark.

Chris, not quite related but we have never had a problem using the AJA HD10MD3 for down converting or routing the SDI. Do you have one on set you could try?

Have you tried going into and routing from an on set HD Monitor like the Panasonic BT-LH1700?

Does the on set monitor show the same issues that you are seeing on your captured video?

What SDI out are you referring to? The Red only has HD-SDI outs.

In hopes you are hooking this up to an HD-SDI input and not a SDI input...have you tried just a monitor to verify you have a signal?

I have used the output to feed a AJA IO HD box and recorded the signal for video assist purposes w/o any problems. If you cant feed a monitor I would call Red.

I will give that a try, I have a panasonic 17" I believe it will give me the same results as the reclocking I did through an AJA HDSDI Vda. But I am willing to try anything. The strange thing is that no matter what I hook up to this split it works like gold. But as soon as I hook up either one of out REDS I have issues. We went to a lot of trouble to build a very powerful split come data rangler all with high quality part and quad shield RG6 so I would have no issues on set, and I can't even capture a solid signal out of either of our REDS. How sad.......

Cheers, Chris

I hope it didn't sound like I was having a go! All theories are welcome. The genlock is a good idea, just not the way I would like to solve it. It should output a strong and clean enough signal that I can capture. Otherwise the SDI is pretty useless.

I am getting a signal. But every 10sec or so it will drop the come back in. It can last for even 30 - 60 sec then drop 5 time in a row then come clean again. The sign of SDI speckle is a sign that there is something wrong with either a connector, cable or length of cable. I am running quad shield RG6 which I have all through my post house with no problems. I have also tried with several cables and used the same cables to hook to something like a EX1 or deck for over 2 hours with no problem at all.

Cheers, Chris

Logically if you're getting a clean artifact free picture on your Panasonic 17" that should rule out any issue of signal strength coming from the camera?

And if you use the Panasonic as the router you would be looking at your capture device (Blackmagic) as the next fault finding stop? But then you have ruled that out using other HD-SDI feeds...:umm:

Tell me about it. I have ruled out everything apart from the RED. That's why I wanted to here if anyone else has had success capturing the HD-SDI (that one's for you Digitalfx) signal. Maybe the BM is more fussy than I thought. Have run 7 edit suites for the last 5 years all with BM gear and never once had a problem.

Cheers, Chris

so did you hook the Red up to a monitor? Do you have a signal on the monitor?

Yes but I still see some speckle from time to time. Which suggests there is something wrong with the signal. The fact that I can run any other 720P HD-SDI signal into the split with no problem what so ever has me worried that I am not getting a strong enough signal out of the RED.

I dont know, you're not providing enough details. Have you tried a different cable?
