We shoot on Red Scarlet tethered to an Avid but would like a way to segment out media into two folders on the same drive partition. On the capture tool the way I have done this previously was by having two partitions and just switching between them. Is there anyway to do this on the same partition to divide footage into two folders? IE we wanted to use two folders instead of two different drives this time around but I am not sure how to implement this. The shoot doesn't start until Tuesday, so I have some time to figure this out, but it would be ideal to finish this sooner then later, otherwise I would build another partition now. Thanks

There is no way to manage this as part of the capture tool process, drive is the finest granularity you will get. In the Avid MediaFiles/MXF folder you will find "1" which is the folder that will get used for any capture and up to some number of files before it goes to "2". You can manually renumber two different folders between "1" and "10" (for example) to go back and forth for isolating the media for each capture. I don't know about changing the name while MC is running, that would be something for you to test. Folder level targeting has been a long time request.

You should be able to do this while Avid is running (but not capturing). It should automatically start scanning your media folder once you do.

MichaelP is right. If you want them on 2 separate folders you would have to do this manually by renaming the one that you would want to capture to as "1" and then rename the folder that you don't want to capture to as some other word like "blah." Once you're done capturing you should have 2 folders named "1" and "2." If you're getting offline media, you would then move the 2 database files (.mdb and .pmr I believe) and let Avid rescan the 2 folders.

It's not ideal. Having 2 drives is probably the way to go.

Thanks guys, I went the two drives route...
