  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can't wait until June 10th!

On my laptop the performance I get with RED media (although I'm mostly been testing with 2K, and from an old build) is better than I get with Canon 5D H.264 files. I haven't been able to use MC5 on a decent workstation yet, but I'm expecting even better performance there. And while it's apples-to-oranges really, the performance of R3D media in MC5 is much more snappy than DS the last time I used it (I haven't tried in 10.3 yet).

Overall as the new AMA excitement goes - I have been a little dissapointed by H.264 (but I understand the complexity and MC5 plays it better than Quicktime player), but totally blown away by RED footage, much faster than I expected.

The Smart Tool is taking some getting used to, and I'd like to see some tweaks, but it does seem to surpass FCP's timeline manipulation in some ways but being a smarter more contextual way to do it.

I've posted a whole review of MC5 on my website now, it's long and rambling, but covers quite a lot... I will do a more in-depth R3D tut in the next week or two, and I'm hoping to test the MC5-DS R3D workflow too.

Dylan,

Thanks for the early feedback. The writeup have been informative both for the Canon and RED workflows.

Yeah, thanks Dylan,

We missed the deadline to download the beta. Now it's June 10th here in Japan, I'd have a long night tonight for the official update.
