Can't wait until June 10th! I want to play with Media Composer 5!

No kidding, man! I have literally been counting the days.
Avid is taking back over!

Admittedly, the Avid MC NAB 2010 announcement was pretty substantial. Question: What feature(s) of MC5 are most anticipated?

umm..... just off the top of my head. AMA native support for multiple formats including r3d and quicktime, 3rd party HW support such as the matrox mx02 mini, mixing on the same timeline clips with different frame rates/sizes/codecs etc., drag and drop to timeline.

These were available in v4... :)

Will the MC5 (Windows) have access to ProRes media?

Yes. AMA accesses the native file and plays it back. A basic rule of thumb with the QuickTime AMA is that if it plays in QT Movieplayer, it will play via AMA. The caveat will be the performance of the codec within the QT wrapper depending on the codec. ProRes plays back as a real time stream for HD formats.

All I can say is anyone who uses MC currently will have their socks blown off by the advancements and new workflow/tools in MC5

If you aren't a MC user this is your moment to switch over and/or learn it, live it and love it.

kick out the jams

It is pretty darn cool. I will definitely have less of a need to go to FCP now. In fact, FCP is being relegated to second choice for our Red projects. Just being able to add effects/titles to .R3d files without having to transcode to something like ProRes or MXF is a big deal. Playback is pretty good, even on a MacBookPro. Add a drive with Red files and a bin just pops open with all your clips ready to go. Depending on the system/drives etc. some stuff had to be rendered. The framerate mix and match is great, I've now used 720P/1080i/1080P DNX and Red, all in the same timeline without rendering. Definitely a must have upgrade.

Support for RED Rocket cards is the biggest feature that I'm looking forward to.

Noel are you a current FCP user? Will MC5 be an adjunct toolset?

I'm a nondenominational editor and I'll use any toolset available. Saying that, yes, I have used FCP more than anything else to date. AVID though is more robust in many aspects as an especially narrative focused editor and I can certainly see it being my preferred choice going forward. FCP is getting IMO a bit tired without a firm commitment from Apple to keep it updated which I think in the long run is the direction they are heading with all of their "pro" products as they focus more on mass marketed consumer products.

Just today I was reminded myself that I have always taken product release dates for granted. But, it's kinda of a newfound excitement to actually anticipate and have a product released on that date.

can the source settings be applied to multiple clips?
can you set the debayer to a lower quality to get single stream 4k 16:9 realtime playback?
i mean is it possible to get 4k 16:9 realtime playback to have a smooth editing experience?
does perfomance get a hit after clips are synced with sound files?

Yes, source settings can be applied to mutiple clips. Same as RSX, RLX, or rMD can be applied to multiple clips.

Yes, you can set to green/yellow, or yellow/yellow for more performance. Audio does not add a performance drag at all compared to the video decode.
