  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Good day , just found that my 2nd Redmote is not update .
At this moment , after few hours of test i can't still connect my redmote with Redmote Update Utility . (last version from Red.com )
I use several MACs , with different Mac OS version .Same problem . Few USB Cables .
Any ideas?

I have found with some MAC's that I need to open the Network Preferences and delete the "RNDIS/...Gadget", have the REDMote powered down, then attach to the computer. If it doesn't connect then, double check the new "RNDIS/...Gadget" and make sure that the parameters are right for it. IP Address of "!92.168.0.1" and Subnet of "255.255.255.0"

Sometimes making sure that the ethernet and Wi-Fi connections are turned off....
I've also had where when the utility is trying to connect I'll have to "force quit" the program, restart it right away, connect... and it connects right then and there.

I'm having the same problem as Vigen, frustrating as hell. I tried Chris solution with attaching the redmote to the Epic but all I get is a message saying that the redmote firmware is too old to be upgraded on the Epic....catch 22.

Just had the same problem today and had to do as Andrew said, go in to the Network Preferences (the little WiFi bars at the top of a mac and last choice on the pull down) (sorry don't know where it is on a PC) and add the RNDIS/...Gadget to the network preferences. If you get lost call RED tech they had to walk me thorough it but everything worked so easy after I added the RNDIS/...Gadget to the Network prefs...
When you add or push the plus sign you will see it and all the IP sub mask mumbo jumbo click apply and you should have it.
Good luck.

99% of the time with the REDMOTE it's because of the network conflict. So many curious design choices made with the REDMOTE... Why does it operate as an ethernet device? Over USB??? Why does it insist on using 192.168.0.1 as the IP address -- one of the most common gateway IP addresses in use on most private LANs??? And about 3 or 4 other big questions... Why? Why? Wh?

If you can't upgrade your REDMOTE, or connect to it via the utility, you almost certainly have a network conflict. Happens on both Mac and Windows, you have to go disable any/ all your other network adapters that will interfere with the REDMOTE's chosen IP addressing. You also have to tell the RNDIS Gadget adapter (USB based ethernet driver) to connect using 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

This is one of the most user-unfriendly update procedures I've ever seen. I still am completely at a loss as to why ethernet style TCP/IP communication was even chosen for this. It has a USB port, why not just make it act as a USB storage device where we can drop the firmware file into an update folder and restart the REDMOTE? Or always do the update via physical camera connection... ....Unintuitive design at it's finest, IMO.

AMEN TO THAT GOOD SIR !

Earlier builds did not provide for auto-updates from the camera. They required an update from the computer. Later build will automatically update when the REDmote is reattached to the camera.

BTW - be sure to undock the REDmote (and I like to make sure it is turned off) when you update the firmware on the camera.

Maybe one of the RED team could post some clear/simple instructions on how to update it :)

You csm update it by attaching it to the back of the camera and turning the cam on.. takes about 30 mins.

Absolutely right.

Update the Epic/Scarlet to the desired firmware and then dock the Redmote. The camera will prompt you to upgrade the Redmote.

Make sure the camera is powered properly and go have a coffee while it updates.
