  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Can't renew the timecode.

Is there such function at all? I need it to run from zero on every single take. Help! :)

That will only get you back to 0 on every format though.

EDIT: My fault. I was assuming you meant 01.00.00.00

Reset timecode to 00.00.00.00

Reset timecode to 00.00.00.00

No. The only way to achieve this is to Jam Sync to an external timecode generator and have that reset to 00.00.00.00.

BTW - why do you want it to run from 00.00.00.00 on every take ?

Thanks guys! I'll show this to my director) I'm satisfied with 01.00.00.00, but he is not.
I don't know maybe the 00 digit looks nicer to him =)
You see one of those oldschool guys, who yell "red sucks" everytime they face a slightest issue.
Thanks once again!

If it's for motion control, use a bloop light.
If it's for a music video or other multiple-pass A/V sync purposes, use a smart slate and/or LTC/guidetrack in to the camera audio.
If it's for tracking the runtime of takes, use a stopwatch.

Anyone know why else you might want this?

Thanks guys, but reading all this, still can't refresh even edge code. Looks like it counts continiously similar to timecode :( How do i refresh it anyway?

Patrick, concerning director — you're right, sometimes they want things to be done the way they used to, but technically it's not always possible (

Edge code

Edge code

I have never heard of anyone wanting to reset time code or edge code for every clip... how would you track your shots in post ?

Stuart, you see, recent shooting was one with the stopwatch involved, precise time is crucial, i've never heard of such a requirement either.

I have worked with Sound guys who have a pigtail that includes a 5 pin LEMO giving Timecode. So they control the JAM sync at all times, this would be another way of resetting the TC on every take... Like for a music video...

Time Code

Time Code

Yes that could work. Reset an external timecode generator at each take, and JAM SYNC the RED ONE to that source.

I would like to have reset my time code as well. I record nature scenes for hour or so, and I would like to know how many minutes I have recorded so far. With Edge Timecode I get good reading for the first first shot. Second shot on the same mag is already starting where the first one ended, and I either calculate it in my head or use stop watch. I wish there was a way to reset it for each clip. Not sure I want to use any external devices for that, I would rather have RED make a firmware update for this feature.

So you just want a clip duration field displayed in the GUI ?
