We've just installed AE and Premiere CS4 on our systems so we could see this fabled ability to edit with R3Ds. Unfortunately, no matter what we do we get the error mesage "file format not supported" when trying to drag an R3D into the Bin. When we try and import an R3D via the file>import menu the file is always greyed out and unselectable.

What gives? The Redcode plugin is installed, both programs are updated to as new a version as possible, and i'm tearing my hair out.

The Adobe tutorials I've watched point out an import option menu, where you can specify preview resolution to 1/4, 1/8 etc, but I'm yet to locate it.

Hope someone can help, I'm sure its something simple and I'm probably just being stupid.

Have you installed the RED ADOBE CS4 INSTALLER from RED's Support page?

Its not a lie if others are using it successfully. There may a step missed during installation or a system incompatibility, but I have talked wit people who have it running fine, so it's not a lie. Understand your frustration and wanting it to work. Someone will help you get there I am sure. I would, but I have not gone the Adobe route...yet.

Yep, installed it once, didnt work. Updated to latest version of CS4 then re installed the plugin. Didnt work.

One thing I forgot to mention is that we're running the trial version. Dont want to spend a bucket of cash until we know it works.

It should work with the trial version.

It's working for many Red owners. My guess is something is being overlooked. But hard to say where that may be without more info. What type of system are you running on? How are you creating a Premiere project file. Does the AE import work? It's a separate plug-in. After upgrading the Adobe apps, which version numbers do Premiere and AE report back? Are they the english language versions?

Would this happen to be footage acquired when your media or camera was giving you recording errors. Saw you had troubles recording 4K 16:9 @ 30fps in another thread. Or does it happen with other clips?

Yeah it works fine once you have everything installed. Not saying that to make you feel better but to point out it's not vaporware if that's what you were worried about.

Hmm, its running on a quad core 16GB G5.

Projects were setup as 4K 16:9 25 and 4K 2:1 25, as we had footage shot at both, neither worked. We've since tried various combos of things we shot in 2K and stuff we shot in slomo etc.

As far as AE, I didn't try it myself, but I'll check with one of our editors once I get back in the office.

I think the premiere update pushed it up to V4.0.1, and the AE was 9.0.1. They are definitely english versions.

Its not allowing any clips, not just the ones that had trouble with codec errors.

Im hoping we can sort it out, because the tutorials make it look so easy, and it would be great to have a working setup on set!

I believe the RedCode plugin requires an Intel architecture system, and therefore your G5 CPU is probably the issue. I am a PC guy, so I am not certain of that, but I bet if you look at the Mac requirements, that is what you will find.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that all Red's tools are Intel only.

Maybe im getting confused here. Its an intel quadcore with 16GB of RAM. I think maybe I shouldnt be calling it a G5, i just associate those cases with G5s.

It doesn't work with the trial version, you need to have the retail CS4.

It certainly works with the full version. I've been using it for weeks on a laptop and tried it on a desktop. Just forget about editing in 2K. 1K seems to be the most feasible resolution you can work at. Maybe it's a problem with the trial version. Or maybe it's the order of installation. Premiere CS4 4.01 update first, then redcode importer.

The first time you import and place a r3d file into the timeline, it's pure joy.

Inflammatory Post Titles

Inflammatory Post Titles

...I'm sure its something simple and I'm probably just being stupid.

Ta

I think it's outrageous that RedUser is allowing inflammatorily titled posts that could damage the reputation of a company.

It's clearly unfair and someone, including RedUser, could very well find themselves making new friends with attorneys.

In my opinion, such posts should be pulled or retitled.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Not sure this is a case for legal action, it just comes down to using better judgement when one is frustrated and needs to vent. I know people use thread titles to get peopl's attention but using a title like the one on this thread will not make for too many friends. Simply stating your dilemma and asking for help will get you to a solution much faster. The more info you can provide about the issue you are having will also make things go faster.

I advocate less lawsuits and more discretion.
