Am having a curious problem. Some of the quicktime proxies no longer worked, so I deleted them. Then I opened the R3D file up in Red Alert, and re-created the proxies.

Now suddenly I have some R3D files that open fine both in RA and RC, but I cannot for the heck of it re-create the proxies. No file (except for the .RSX) is created. Settings>QT wrapper>No Resolution is unchecked.

Any other hints as to what to do?

Thanks.

RedAlert will only create proxies if the names of your RDC folders match those of your RSX files. Proxy files point to the R3D files using a relative link, so you still may rename folders after proxies have been created. At least this is my understanding.
I did have some strange issues though moving RDC folders with proxies inside to a NAS. Quicktime preview is lost and mov files often crash the player when opened.

sometimes I wonder why are we doing it to ourselves.
We had film, it looked very good, and even magnificent when one knew what he was doing.
Why do we need all these YES, NO, MAYBE it is there maybe not.

...though it did happen to me more than once that the lab screwed up in the processing.

Oliver, when I also delete the RSX file, and then go into RA, tell it to create the proxies, all it does is create a new RSX file.

Grüße ins schöne Berlin!

Sorry, but I have no more ideas. Whenever I encountered problems like this, they were caused by altered folder names. Are you sure that there are no odd blanks in your RDC strings?

Gruß zurück nach Norwegen!

Aha!

Aha!

Found the solution. One of the folders in the tree contained a non-english character, once I removed that bugger, I could create the proxies without trouble.

So, to all germans, icelanders, norwegians, and pretty much anyone outside the English alphabet: be careful with naming your folders :)

Happy week-end.

" " ?

" " ?

Are the " " in the name of the source folder? it won't work if there are " "s in the name.

In my experience (with some UNIX background) Apple's OS X is behaving much better if you adhere to UNIX path names. I use ASCII only and even underline instead of spaces…
