  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon vs red my test

OK 17-70 vs canon Prime 24 L and 50 1.4 and cimko mt 28 2.8
I thinking of buying red lenses so a friend of mine brought his red and mine canons, and we compared them at the same f stop and the same mm, we set the red to 24mm or 50mm or 28mm.
I wanted to see it my self will the difference in quality of the image.

Thanks for the test. Might I suggest before putting your money down to test a wider apertures to see how the bokeh and flaring compare.

Hey Greg you should check your tint settings in camera.. something looks off with you're colors.

It's a flawed test right from the start if you are using different filters in front of the lenses - why would you do that?

Because we wanted to shoot by the boats in sunlight, so had no choice but to use nd's, the lenses were at f22 on one shot and it was overexposed. This test is really for my self, and I do see that reds are sharper,

So then why wouldn't you use the same ND's for all shots?

Hi Greg,

May I suggest a test with 2 of the same kind lenses: put a Canon mount on RED and you will be set to go.
As has been written before, you should really use the same settings (ISO, F stop, focal length etc), the same brand/strength filters and maybe do a white balance either before shooting or in post. If you have 2 tripods, start both cameras at the same time. Your split-screens will turn out to be more conclusive.
good luck!
