This past week, I had the pleasure of working as the RED Data Capture Engineer / DIT on a commercial for the new Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT Camera.

I found it ironic that Canon was shooting it's products with RED. Gotta have them looking as good as possible, of course.

I believe the spot is only for Japan, but just in case, I'll keep the details to myself for now.

:-)

Wow, weird that they'd shoot a commercial, destined for Japan, in the US....

Then again it would've been doubly ironic to shoot it with Canon lenses using the Birger mount! :)

Cheers for the info (and I'm hoping for a Canon 50/1.4 MkII as well to be announced).

I'd like a 16-35mm Mk III that doesn't go softer at the narrow end, and a 24-70mm Mk II that doesn't extend when zooming! And no focus breathing on either... :)

At last... The Canon EOS spots appear online.

This low-res web version really doesn't do it any justice, but does show proof of Canon shooting RED. These ads are just too funny.

They shot with live animals (monkey and wolf) on blue screen and then had puppets for the arms.
We used Cooke lenses and shot in 4K, 3K, and 2K depending on the framerates desired, which they often used 90 and 120 for smooth arm movement on the puppet during compositing.

I believe there are longer versions of these commercial that will run on air in Japan in HD, but this is all I have found so far:

Also on YouTube:

Enjoy. :-)

but this "new" Rebel EOS Kiss X3 is the old 500D/Rebel T1i DSLR
only one to be released is T1/2000D on July 7 (???) but its not clear if it will be with video or not

Did you shoot this out at Valencia stages with Gale Tattersall?

Yes, thats it. (Santa Clarita Studios)

And Gale was a pleasure to work with.

Heheh - no Birger mount... :-)

I believe all of the glass was Cooke.
