  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon Mount's Locking Ring Not Tight Anymore

Had a similar thing happen to my R1 PL mount. An AC installed the lens improperly and somehow managed to get it on crooked without lining up the pin. No amount of force would release it. Some folks think they're in a pit crew or rodeo hog-tying competition and try to see how fast they can swap out lenses. No production is in that big of a hurry.

Long story short, some goober of a renter or 1st AC must have been taking on and off Canon lenses while the locking ring was still locked. I can't even imagine the amount of force they had to use to do that...

Anyways, I just noticed that the locking ring is no longer tight - it just feels like it's there for decoration now without added security.

Is there any way to fix this myself short of sending it into RED? I imagine the cost for the latter is pretty high, and I'd hate to have to deal with this again!

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my Canon mount. How much was the repair?

No clue - I'll shoot RED an email now to get an estimate. Also curious if they'll pop out a new Canon mount one of these days.

like they say.. if its isn't broke. don't fix it..

no pun intended. ;)

did you replace this lens mount or get it fixed?
