Please advise which is a better option - Canon Mount OR PL Mount package. I am planning on using the kit for a "Coming of Age" comedy genre movie. Also please let me know which lens to choose, I can afford just one lens for the project.

Appreciate your Advise
Ravi

Canon mount as Canon EF lens is cheaper than any PL mount lens. but they don't have gears for follow focus, but there are solutions by DSLR rig makers like ZACUTO, REDROCKMICRO, SHOOT35 etc.

If your that tight on budget I would go for the canon mount and save some money to put towards a canon 24-70 and since your saving some money on mounts I'm thinking you could probably afford one or two non L-series canon primes

I believe you would get a much better answer though if you told us what your budget is for mount+glass

Thanks for your replies!
Including the Scarlet package, I can stretch the camera budget upto 22k. How to best use the rest of the budget?

Sorry, I am not a professional so its a bit hard for me to understand the capabilities of the lenses. Actually I wanted to work free for experience by using my Scarlet kit (when I get it) for any project. Yet to find something, until then I have to keep asking.

Basically what I am looking for is a Mount (PL or Canon for Scarlet) and lens to get the appropriate images for my requirement which is for a Comedy+Coming Of Age genre film. I guess sharp and bright images would be best for such genre. Which lens give the sharpest images. Which lens are better in quality Canon or Red Lens. I am trying to narrow down what I really want..

Since we are offered just the PL mount and the Canon Mount for the Scarlet pack I have to choose between these two. No chance for 3rd party mounts :(

Which lens give the sharpest images. Which lens are better in quality Canon or Red Lens.

Photozone has a lot of lens reviews. If you read the Peter Lik thread, Jim mentions that the RED Pro Primes were sharper than the Canon lenses, especially on the edges. The RED Lenses are BIG. The 24mm RED weighs ~6 lb, the Canon 24mm is under 2 lb.

In 2009 there was S.A.L.T., which might provide some more information for you on lenses and various characteristics.

Stacey, appreciate your advise. Will read the links.

Thanks
Ravi
