Canon mount not detecting Canon lens?

Hey guys!

Occasionally my the Canon mount on my EPIC will not detect my attached Canon lens (and yes they are seated correctly), and therefore will not allow me to adjust my aperture from the on-screen menu.

I haven't upgraded to the latest firmware yet, and was wondering if anyone might have come across a similar issue in the past?

Cheers!
Joseph

This has happened to me as well a few times. When it does happen I make sure the connections on the adapter are clean. I know you said its seated correctly, but I have found that it helps to put the mount on, push it slightly in all four directions to really seat it, then I loosely tighten the lower two screws first and then work my way around slightly tightening each screw as I go. If that does not work I have found repeating that process usually does. Hope that helps!

Cheers!
Danny.

Many EF mount lenses are not supported by firmware, make sure that yours is.

For example, we are still waiting for the Tamron 150-600 to be supported.
I currently carry a 5D body when I'm shooting with the EF mount in order to jam the desired aperture on the lens.
Then tape the contacts with paper tape and put on Dragon.
Retarded way to do it but it works until they write it into the firmware. (if)

Had this last week.

Remove the mount, check contacts and refit. Then do a hardware reset.

Thanks guys! I will give these suggestions a try, and then report back.

This thread is relevant to a question I have as well, are there still aperture control issues with the Zeiss ZE primes? I know I can get modded ZF's with canon mounts which will have manual aperture rings but I'd rather not pay the extra if I don't really have to. So does the latest firmware have full support for the ZE's?

My buddy seems to have that issue on and off, any idea of the cause?

This happened to me also. Mount had always worked perfectly, then one day it suddenly no longer recognised the Canon Lens. Unfortuneately it happened to me on a shoot, where I was only using Canon AF stills glass with no manual iris... Fortuneately the iris was wide open, and i was indoors with lighting, so I could more or less set the stop. Following this, it didn't start working again, so this was no an intermittent thing. I tried a bunch of things like cleaning the contacts, re-seating the mount etc, to no avail. Of course it was always also mounted the right way around. I decided to test a mates Canon mount on my camera. His mount worked on my camera, while mine had stopped working. This lead me to believe it was not a camera issue but a mount problem. I didn't want to send it back to Red because of turnaround time and pending jobs. So I took it to the local camera tech, Matthias at Lemac in Sydney. I don't know what he did, I did ask but didn't really get an answer, but he took a look at it, and was able to rectify the issue, despite the lack of moving parts. Point is, it sounds similar to my mount problem. Mine had always been looked after and had received no trauma, and the problem surfaced after a couple of years of trouble free service. If it is the same issue as mine, it can be fixed. Maybe your local tech can look into it, maybe you need to send it back to red.
Cheers
Tom
