  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon lenses...on iphones!?

With the right app, that would be a killer directors viewfinder.

This ad is so wack. Under their FAQ they say there is no aperture controller so to show an EOS lens is misleading.

Plus crop factor would screw up any use as a directors viewfinder, best DIY directors viewfinder is a canon t2i or similar aps-c DSLR

I'm pretty disgusted by this.

Just think of all the hipster kids who think they are photographers now because they bought a cheap lens and an adapter for their iPhone.

:( thanks for saddening my day with this post.

You know what saddens my day? Attitudes like that. It's a creativity killer.

Well ya know we all start somewhere but nobody gets started without the audacity to try, so why would you feel negatively about something that may inspire someone else to do something new?

I guess I should have been more clear when describing Hipsters.

I have no problem with people buying this and actually trying to pursue or get started in photography or film making, or anything related to that. I started out taking pictures on my moms first digital camera and making stop motion movies, so trust me I know.

But hipsters, especially the ones I know, basically say they are the best at what they do. Their is no room for fault for them. So im sure they would get this, and say their work is better than an experienced photographer, just because they bought a lens.

I see... Solomon apparently understood better than I, so I'll defer to his wisdom. Don't let it bring you down.

I know there are probably more than a few people who would find this useful, especially the TV and sports crowd. I just wish that the iPhone did 24p, 60p, or PAL frame rates at the least for the narrative film crowd, then this would be a must-have. I think it's really cool in any case, it's looks like it would be similar to a big lens on one of the Sony NEX pocket cams. Certainly opens up the doors for more iPhone-originated short films which would be a cool subject for film festivals and contests I would think. Hopefully the next iPhone does bump up the camera quite a bit and maybe they could do an iPad version just for kicks! =)

Sorry... But I'm afraid hipsters are much worse. Their work will suck, but they will claim that they MEANT for it to be that way. To a hipster, if your work approaches industry or commercial quality, then you are buying into capitalist society, support the war in the middle east, and hate minorities. Having work that's as crappy as possible means that they aren't buying into societies "values"... and they'll ALWAYS say it was intentional. The more lo-fi and cheap the better. They'll say that they're "experimenting with the form". Hipster "art" is like a contest to see who can be the poorest. Although, hipsters will also never hesitate to spend money as long as something is "ironic". In this case, a Canon 28-70mm 2.8 mounted on an iphone is VERY ironic... and the price will not stop them. They won't be able to contain themselves as they shoot grainy 1k stills in 4 glorious stops of iphone latitude with over $2000 worth of equipment. It's just dripping with irony... the hipsters wet dream.

Hipster: "Hey check out this new "piece" I just finished..."

Normal Guy: "I don't get it? It's just a crappy picture of a cigarette next to a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Did you take this on a cell phone or something?"

Hipster: "Actually, it was iphone and my new Canon lens adapter... this picture cost over $2000."

Normal Guy: "I don't get it? You could of used a much better camera for that kind of money..."

Hipster: "Yea... and then it would look like something out of one of your capitalist media advertisements... I don't think so."

Normal Guy: "Whatever. I don't think people will understand any of that. They'll just think it's a crappy picture."

Hipster: "Fine! If your going to be this close-minded and intolerant, you can get the hell out of here! Go watch Fox news you communist!"

I was about to buy it...then I saw the pictures and figured I should just stick to the iPhone lens, the pictures off my iPhone look sharper then the ones that come out with that Adapter...

I mean ok fine, its small stuff on that site but still, I've seen iPhone pictures even lower size then the ones on that site look sharper..

or are my eyes just getting really bad?

(side thing, whats the crop factor like?)
