  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CANON K-35 T 2.8 25-120MM opinions...

I looked into buying one of these a year or so ago. I learned that the Soviets made a bunch of replicas that looked just like the original, right down to the printing. So, it was hard to know if you were getting a real Canon or a copy. So, I just picked up an Angenieux 20-120mm T2.9.

I have 1 of these lenses. Also has macro which I believe no other 35mm zoom has. They can be in rough shape. The one I have is pretty good. Anyone who wants in the NY area can come in and test it.

My Lomo 20 - 120 also has macro. Comes in useful sometimes.

I had one of these along with a complete K-35 prime set that I let go with my Eclair CM3 to push the sale along.
I'm kind of wishing I had a time machine right about now!

I worked on a few of those lenses back when. Overall I wasn't that impressed by them. Kubrick had a good one. If you get one and have it worked on make sure the lens tech knows the lens. If you take apart the macro mechanism and don't put some scribe marks where the pieces align up in regular and macro mode you can pay hell trying to find the right combo of threads upon reassembly. Trust me on that one. lol

From that picture you posted, it looks like a lens with a good combination of resolution and speed. Colorfull coating = modern lens, which helps resolution at larger aperture stops.
I guess you can do a lot of good shots with it.
Does it make images slightly yellowish like some Lomo primes do in comparison to Zeiss primes?

I have one of these and it mixes well with my K35 HS Canons. Not the sharpest lens, some flare in strong backlight situations, but pleasant and fast to use. Now if it only ranged from 20mm instead of 25.

I actually sold the lens to Berenger Brillante (another reduser) as, at the time, I was not really using it. I could have used it on a few jobs since then but c'est la vie. It did have a yellow cast but nothing that was too objectionable. A good lens if you can pick one up under $3k.

long term viability

long term viability

Evin,

Not used this lens for a while as the one I used to hire is no longer available. The lens technician told me it was not repairable as (I forget the details) some components were rubber and were no longer available so it was retired.

I was always happy with the performance but if you were considering a purchase it may be worth talking to a knowledgable lens technician and checking its long term viability

You know that the OP asked his question 1 year ago?

Stay away from old zooms.

Stay away from old zooms.

With the exception of 20-100 Cooke all other pre (Angenieux) HR cine zooms(1988) are totally inadequate for 4K. FYI I've serviced and repaired Cine lenses for almost 25 years. But this is just my opinion. You've been warned:thumbup1:.....
