I guess as of right now it is just potential good source/ vapor talk but so was RED at one time.. I personally think RED will dominate in the long run just based on the fact that they stay close and connected to the pulse of their users but needless to say Canon will be pumping out and slowly feeding us camera's that are more and more capable on what seems like a monthly basis..

Bit late...RED's got the gun already aimed and locked...believe Jim's waiting to pull the trigger...kind of going to be a mexican stand off but RED's obviously got bigger guns...more brains too it seems...HDR mode? The smallest damn cinema camera I've ever seen?! 5K RAW vs 1080p "Raw"...not to mention RED had to make custom cards for their cameras so I can't see how canon will pull it off without some deep compression of some sort which kind of defeats the idea of RAW to an extent...

Either way...pretty sure this thread will get shut down...no more other camera talk here :)

Can anyone in Europe lend credibility to this?

Personally I think RED will always be two steps ahead though.

That's really quite sad if true... Do moderators really shut down any thread or post with reference to other camera's now ?

wow...

Sounds like a BS rumor to me on it's face. Most glaring is the fact that a new 5d would be a MK3... Aren't blogs fun? Any fool can broadcast.

Is anyone posting Red rumors on Canon forums? I think this one is BS too.

this thread is in off topic. why would it be shut down?

the only time i have ever seen a thread shut down in on this forum is when things started going way off topic (for instance, this topic of canon's latest hdslr would probably get shut down if it appeared in the middle of the current scarlet/epic news threads because it's hijacking and confusing many users by being there) or there is obvious disinformation being spread that might hurt red or its partners.

Uh, no.

Anyway, I think the rumor is BS. Put this one right up next to the RAW recorder for the Canon and Panasonic video cameras, etc.. Oh, wait, this same rumor circulated before the 7D materialized.

It is inevitable that Canon and others will eventually record video in some sort of RAW format. But their cameras and sensors need to progress a bit. I would actually expect RAW video recording to come from their actual video divisions first. I think we'll see an XL series camera that records RAW before we see APS-C/H or FF RAW video from a DSLR. That just makes more sense. It's pretty hard to do line-skipped RAW recording from a Bayer sensor anyway. 1080p RAW from full frame? Puhleeez.

Just my $0.02..

So far Canon can do full frame raw at about 5fps max. They have a ways to go to get to motion speeds. Even if they do, what will the price be? Not likely to be in sub $3k consumer territory.

Its the other camera forum that got deleted, not every thread that has to do with a different camera.

Should be interesting to see what Canon comes up with but I'm willing to bet that if they do come out with a RAW motion camera then it will only be 1080. Remember Canon doesn't think to future proof anything. Plus it seems like they are trying to shake down the consumer for as much money as possible. I know its a business but if they would treat their customers a little better I'm sure they would make a lot more people happy. I'm still mad at them for just sitting on the 24p firmware upgrade for the 5D2.

Canon Full Frame RAW ? Holy market place Batman!

It's true! I've tried the camera myself. The raw functionality is the most amazing new feature, but there are lots of other neat developments too. One of them is the new AI-Servo autofocus. The AI is so advanced that it can actually connect to the Internet and post rumors. Then you sit back and watch to see if anyone could possibly be gullible enough to start threads discussing rumors that are clearly and obviously fake.

Do you really think that canon would terminate their entire line of professional video camera products by putting something as powerful as raw in their SLR's?

Why would this matter? Most videographers are interested in fast simple production workflows not raw. There are a lot of efficiencies and conveniences for general fast turn business/event video production work that an SLR simply isn't well suited for .

Many of us have been playing with DSLRs while waiting for SCARLET. (Nothing wrong with a little gadgeteering, right?) While this little gizmos shoot somewhat stunning looking video at (somewhat) HD res, I don´t expect much from AVCHD postproduction.
The whole hype reminds me of the first DOF adapters: `film look´ at a budget. Please - this is not the real thing! It´s a lookalike, a stand-in for something else. Tell me it´s a crash-cam - agreed. Tell me it´s a tool for low-cost documentary camera-people fed up with the `look´ of video - agreed. I don´t think Canon themselves ever claimed anything else but what is there. If wishful thinking produces rumors like the one above, some people are all too eager to speculate upon them. I can´t even say it can´t be done as I know nothing about building digital cine cameras, but why bother when RED´s SCARLETs are only a few months away? This company has probably the best image processing hardware/software track record in the industry and SCARLET will bring affordability down to prosumer levels, so why put any hope or expectations into some rumor of a yet to be announced miracle-cam? The fact that certain advertising folks treat DSLRs as the new SUPER 8 for effect, does not make this workflow any better. I admit that I happily play with my little Lumix GH1 and PL glass, but this is personal fun and not in my weirdest dreams would I suggest this shooting technique to any director ...

That's a re-post of the same crap rumor.

BTW, In Japan 5D Mark II has PL Mount version:
http://shuffle.genkosha.com/products/dslr/7317.html

That's a conversion done by Ichimarukyu Image Studio, Inc. Nothing official about it. My Japanese reading isn't the best, but I can usually manage better than the online translators and I can read it well enough to know that it's just a cool conversion like others out there, not that uncommon now that the SLRs shoot video.

And it sort of makes sense that RAW would show up in DSLR motion first. Since cinematography has more in common with still photography than it does with ENG and studio work... which RAW would be terrible for.
